~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

They are all done with BattleStations (this morning), but being the day before PIR, they may have to practice before they can call.  Some families in the past have actually not received a call from their SR before PIR.  So if that happens to you, just go as planned.  They may have a "watch" or the phones may have been too tied up.  Be sure to check FB accounts too as some can get on the computers before they get to the phones.  So you may find out you have a sailor from Facebook!

Stay warm and enjoy the MeetandGreets!

I was wondering the same thing about div 087! They must have been the last group to go through battlestations.

Sorry!

KatsMom:  I so agree with Lala and FTLW!  Wear it!  They love having retired and active duty military there....and please make sure someone snaps a pic of her salute to you!  What a wonderful moment!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on January 31, 2013 at 1:49pm

KatsMom - I agree with LaLa. The only other thing I can think of as far as changing is that after PIR they only give everyone about 15 minutes (at the most) in the PIR Hall...then they startturing down the lights and have that placed cleared fast. So changing after might be an issue. Not trying to be negative but thought you might like to know as you stated that you do not have outergarments. I hope it works out though as I think it would be wonderful! :-)

Here is the link to RTC Websites Active Duty Military Personnel/Retirees page for info they put out about dress, protocol sequence of events. Hope it helps if you need it!

Lots of people will be wearing their uniforms and I think that is awesome that she wants to salute you. What a great daughter you have. I say wear it, even if you have to change in the bathroom :)

Stay safe and travel carefully everyone. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Most of all have a wonderful time :)

Need advice from experienced folks on this one.  Got a long letter from my SR (she's in 912; maybe she's a SAILOR by now!).  I'm retired Air Force and she specifically asked me to wear my uniform to graduation, because "It would be so cool if my mom is the first person I salute after graduation."  Needless to say, that wasn't in my plan.  Have you seen times when Active Duty or Retired guests wear uniforms?  I also don't have proper outergarments for this weather, so I'm thinking to take it with me and change in the restroom once we are at the PIR hall.   Thoughts??
