Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Also, if you make your reservations on Southwest into either Milwaukee or Chicago-Midway, there is no change fee....2 bags check for free. They are going to start charging for "no shows" but I understand the change fee is still non-existent (you just pay for any fare increase). They also run deals alot, so be checking their website if this is an option for you. You can book your hotel anytime since you can cancel up to the day before or day of arrival. No penalty. Welcome to the group! Sarge also has a great transportation service if you are not driving or renting a car.

He actually sent his sister a separate letter also postmarked the same day. His letter was very upbeat. He said the hardest thing for him has been not having electronics and the hard beds. He said that they drew 6 vials of blood and that he is on 30 days of meds. He also said that he was one of the youngest (he just turned 19 last Friday). He also said the things they do for fun is clean...haha. It was great to hear from him. Anyway....now I'm a happy camper.

Comment by snowmanmom on December 21, 2012 at 10:23pm: HI! I am Keith's mom Ship 04 DIV 087 I was not sure what name to use since they said not to post no real first or last names. Learning as I am going. We are very excited that our son has chosen a Navy career and following in the footsteps of so many family members. So much is to learn and exciting for parents as well as I am sure for our Sailors!!! I too am very anxious to hear from others if they have recieved a letter, I think my son will write BUT he is not really a writer and he told me he would write towards the end so I will have to hear from others, have to love our children LOL. We have not made any plans yet, so many websites so they may or may not make it and to wait to closer to the end to make reservations? I feel pretty confident he will make it. Can't imagine him not. Praying the wether allows for travel. Where are you going for you Meet and Greet alot of people has suggested "Sarge"? Any ideas? I wish we could bring more than three people, alot family so proud of him, Any information you share I will greatly appreciate it. Thank YOU! Brenda "snowmanmom"
