~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Lmcgoffin , you have a mothers heart and want the best for your son.  I am new to all of this as well and learning from everyones posts ...tucking it  away, uncertain of what we will need.  Just encourage him when you talk again and let him know you believe in him...that he has what it takes.  I have 3 boys and that phrase meant more to them than any other thing I could ever say.  Stay strong....reallizing that we as Navy Moms need to be as strong as our Sailors

Good morning everyone, baking and making candy today for my goody trays. I made choc covered pretzels and pretzel wreaths last night. I am making peppermint trays and plates this morning and fudge, pecan pralines, and of course sugar cookies. My hubby's boss is going to be a very happy man lol and my family will be happy as well :)

Lmcgoffin - I'm sorry I missed your post. It sounds like your son is being moved to FAST.

You SR just needs some more time for his academics it seems. They are retaining him...he is just being "set back" (it's called ASMO or Assignment Memorandum) in his training. He will get the extra help he needs for his academics and then he will be recycled back into a new Division and he will have a new PIR date.

Yes, this does happen sometimes...(it can happen for various other reasons as well. ASMO only happens to individuals not whole divisions.

He will go into FAST -Fundamental Applied Skills Training. You will not recieve another Form Letter...your recruit will have to give you the new Division and PIR date. OR it will be possible after he completes FAST to call PAO for that info.

PLEASE keep your original Form Letter...you will need the original password to give to PAO to get the new password for the Vehicle Gate Pass. This is the only time that PAO gives out password info.

You know...I do not know the Ship Div number for FAST (they have Ship and Div for this I believe...even though it is a temporary place for a recruit.) I would call PAO and ask about this as it does look like a two week program...to find out where to write to him.

Phone: Public Affairs Office 847-688-2405

Please watch this video (start at 8:24 minutes until the end) and it will explain about FAST for you.

Lmcgoffin:  Yes, they will help him with that.  No worries.  That is why they setback (asmo)...to give them the extra help.  Prayers that he will get this!  Did he give you the date of the PIR group/ship/div # yet?  If not, then he probably is put in the group where they give him assistance with this.  I know this is a shock, but they really do want these SRs to become sailors, so they will give him the help he needs.  There is not a PIR 02/15 group yet, but should be soon.  That would be his next group from what he told you.

However, just to let you know, my son was also asmoed for what he was told would be 2 weeks back in 2009.  He gave me his new ship/div #.  Thankfully, I decided to wait on my travel reservations since I was already going to incur one change fee.  Glad I waited...because....he called a week later and said he was back to training in another ship/div #.....a week earlier than they had told him.

Hang in there....once they become sailors, how they got there really doesn't matter, but I know you are concerned, so prayers that he will "get this!"

Thanks Janice. I am on that page so I will keep checking. The last video weekly review of the Navy showed RTC at the very end from Dec 12.

Imom - my son admitted in his girlfriends letter that he cried. Also went to church and they talked about family and he cried again.
Rose- I'm afraid I will do the same. I told my son to just keep talking while I'm sniffling at the other end.
Sounds like they are all going through the same emotions. Did lose some sleep over Holly's message. Praying her son finds strength to carry on.
