For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by BensonMOM on December 21, 2012 at 1:03am: I got a phone call from my son yesterday and he told me that he failedm his English exam so he was getting put back 2 weeks and was going to a new division and ship. He sounded a wee bit up set but trying to sound tough. I am worried. He has always had a hard time with English. Will they help him out? Does anyone know if they are gonna get to call lhome on christmas? Please help out this very stressed out mom

I use it a lot for really bad typo's lol. If it won't work FTLW should be able to delete it, no worries. it could be a first or last name but the recruits and even when they are Sailor later on they really only know each other by last name. My daughter has friends now that she doesn't even know their first names lol.

Comment by diannep on December 20, 2012 at 11:58pm: imomxfour: That is why we tell you all to try and stay until at least Sunday...you are right...sometimes they have a hard time getting all of the flights on Saturday and they have to stay until Sunday. They would not have flights booked for this group yet....but most of them do fly out on Saturdays in most PIR groups.
