N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Since I received my son's address on Thursday, all of the letters (12)  that I started writing on 12/5 right through 12/14, went into the mailbox on Friday, I mailed one from work on Friday and mailed another on Saturday.  Two more are going out today.  I am planning on putting his "Ricky Heaven x-mas gift" together (as was previously suggested on an earlier post) and will mail it out near week's end, so he will receive it in between Christmas and New Years - hopefully, and then he can simply lock it up and be ready for after they are finished with BattleStations 21.  I was silently hoping for a phone call yesterday, but figured it was probably too soon for them to get the phone call privilege.  I hope that everyone has a great day.  I pray for those of you looking for your form letters and ID Card docs, that they will arrive today.  I also pray for all of the victims of Friday's senseless act of violence.

JL:  Depends on when the address is entered into the computer.  He may be a higher numbered division which means that his division filled later. The lower numbered divisions fill first.  Remember, the mail is held from them for 2 weeks anyway until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained.  They probably received their first mail yesterday.  Mail should be going out from them to you all today.

DrJudi:  They are not allowed to have much money there...could be stolen.  So it would be better for you to have his grandparents send a card with a note that they will have his gift at PIR!  You can give him cash or a gift card then.  And, the RDCs are aware of their birthdays....they have all of their paperwork!

Scarlette:  Text or call SARGE for your transportation.  He will give you a deal that will include transportation to PIR too.  He is wonderful and will pick you up on Thurs night and take you to his MeetandGreet too, which is a wonderful time with lots of info!  So contact him!  We highly recommend him.  He will ask you if you would like to carpool with others from the airport which will save all of you money.

Hey all, haven't been on in a little bit. I'm happy to say that I'm expecting to meet my savings goal to go to my fiance's PIR by tomorrow! :D

Is anyone else planning on staying over at the Navy Lodge? I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the cheapest and most convenient way to get from the airport to the Lodge, and back. And also, to the ceremony from the Lodge, and back. As far as I know, I am not yet of age to rent a rent-a-car.

Lets all get letters this week! I know we all could use a pick me up but I am preparing myself the first letters may not be very upbeat. I guess that's part of the process.

DrJudi, I would have them wait and give it to him after he finishes. I understand you really don't want the RDCs to know its your birthday.

We are allowed to mail our SR's money, right?  His birthday is Jan 19th, so his grandparents are going to put some cash in a card...or is it better to send gift cards?

Comment by JL (Ship 12 DIV 85) on December 17, 2012 at 12:50am

Does anyone know why it takes some recruits so long to get their addresses? My fiance's recruiter just got his address Friday while others had it almost immediately. It just makes me sad to know he's been up there for almost 2 weeks and hasn't been able to get a letter from me. :(

Hi Cindy, i wouldn't worry too much about them having problems - it was me who said my son told us they were *slow* but my husband pointed out, that they could very well be the NORM, but the RDC's obviously have to work them hard, and invoke the desire to do better, do more, be faster, etc...., so it could just be what they're being told. I'm sure a lot of new SR's are indeed slow and need to learn to speed things up, lol...

I didn't mean to worry anyone - and keep in mind that this was only on their 8th full day there, so this is all new to them and my son. I just tried to remember everything he told me, so that all of you could get a glimpse into what our SR's are going doing right now and what it's like - bottom line, he said the RDC's in their division are "cool" and he likes them, but yes, they do get yelled at and it's hard work, and they all need improvement. But he said he was doing good, and as a team/group, they talk about how they can all imporve and they study together every night, etc....

I walked away from that call feeling much BETTER about everything, because even though he clearly misses us and got chocked up over saying hello and goodbye, in-between that, I could tell he was proud to tell me all about the experience so far, and he sounded really good when he was explaining all of that.

I hope this helps you feel better!!! (((HUGS)))

Wynona, it usually does take a while for that form to come so it is good that you can be patient. That can be so hard when they are away.
