~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@wynona Congrats on the letter. But check w/recruiter about ID card - you shouldn't need anything else to go to nearest military base to be issued a card. You should have been entered into the defense departments system (DEERS) during in-processing, and should only need a picture ID to get your DD Form 2 (ID card). I believe the recruiter may be able to check on that for you.
@KatsMom -- Did you get the letter yesterday, too? Sure hope so. I have my fingers crossed, but Colorado Springs is a bit further than Dayton or Atlanta. ;-)
MTNESTIN(Ship12-Div085/086), have you gotten the form letter yet? Our kids are in the same group it looks like. Everyone else around us are getting the letter. I am so worried why I have not gotten it yet. Not sure where my son is sending it. I did get the box at my office because I told him to send it there since it was being FEDEX'ed and my husband and I work all day.
Good Morning,
I'm a mom from CT and decided not to share the devastating news from Newtown with my SR. My feeling is that he has enough to contend with at this time and I did not want this tragedy weighing on his mind. It's a tough decision as to whether to share such news - one that only you can decide.
With that said, on a brighter note...I have some flight information to share for anyone living close enough to NYC to fly out of Laguardia to Midway. Southwest has direct flights on 1/31 as low as $79 one way and the same rates returning on 2/3!
@imomxfour-My son goes by Tyler. I wasn't sure how much of the name we could use when I made my screen name.
I think someone mentioned it last week but I don't remember, how much time is spent with the brother divisions?
Thank you eveyone for keeping up the conversation. I am learning so much from all of you...I still have a lot to learn! I feel like I could be on here all day looking things up and watching videos-I find it more consuming than fb :) Being part of this community really makes me feel closer to what Tyler is committed to.
Have a great Sunday!
We have our room booked ....this feels good!!.
Heavy heart today for the many pieces of news that remind us we are human and fallible. Prayers for family members affected by Connecticut news and also the family of Sailor that lost his life. Grateful for the many sacrifices that are made daily for us and the Gift that we are preparing to celebrate this next week. Prayers for each of you
I have to correct myself a bit as I am not sure that every RDC does this (I don't know if it is RTC policy etc.) but I am basing it on what we have seen on the PIR groups as well as asking my son. He said that when he was at BC there was a bad storm in an area and his RDC's did ask if anyone lived there and needed to call family.
LisaR, normally we don't recommend it. Did you discuss if she wanted ALL bad news or just what directly affects your family?
Hi everyone,
I just found this area and got my letter today. Ship 03 Div 081.
I was also wondering about what they may know about current events. I live in CT only 20 miles from Newtown and know ppl who used to live and teach there. It's devastating. I imagine it's like hurricane sandy, weather or not they are told. That too was very close to home. We drove around in the afternoon and saw houses that were half washed out to sea and now, I'm not sure if I should mention the shooting in a letter.
She wanted to be notified if something happened, but this doesn't effect our family directly and I hate to bother her with it.. On the other hand if someone else mentions it, she'll get mad at me for not telling her as she made it very clear she wants to know bad news (I don't think I agree with that, but it's her decision)
Any thoughts?
Hi photomom, we are in the same Div. I haven't tried to send a message but you can try to send one to me. Maybe it's that particular person's profile settings?
