I finally got my form letter!!!!! But my son just listed me as "mom" on the letter...is this going to be a problem? Can I fix it?
Oh, thank you, diannep. That clears up my confusion. I wasn't thinking about the difference between A school and RTC authority.
Correct, Carolski. Your sailor probably won't know if he can visit you at Navy Lodge until he checks in over there shortly after PIR is over. We are suggesting that those with sailors staying in GL for A School consider staying at a civilian hotel so there are no issues with visitation. We think those under RTC's authority (those flying out) will be fine visiting family at Navy Lodge at this point. The Commands are separate and issue their own individual rules.
...also, as far as your sailor flying out on Sat., he will be bussed to the airport late Fri night so the only day of concern for you would be PIR day. Although some may not fly out until Sunday, it is normally Sat. RTC may have different rules than A School does. Let us know if you find out anything.
mtnestr: You may want to try and contact Brian Walsh at the Public Affairs Office at RTC and see what he says. I contacted him a good while back about this and he said that RTC had no problem with the sailors visiting family at Navy Lodge for PIR weekend. There should be an email address in your form letter where you can contact the PAO office on RTC.
CatMom: Is RTC now forbidding sailors to visit family at Navy Lodge or just A School Command? I had not heard that RTC (in charge of those flying out) was prohibiting sailors from visiting family in their rooms. Just knew that was a problem for those staying in GL for A School.
Good Morning!
I have reservations for the Navy Lodge. My sailor is flying out, so I thought that was okay. If he flies out that evening or during the night, it's not a big deal, but what if he doesn't fly out until Sat. or they say sometimes not until Sunday? Will he not be able to come there at all? Can we get some official word from RTC on this?
That cold thing that alot of your SRs have is called the Ricky Crud and comes from their contact with all the recruits from all over the states and world--plus all the vaccinations their bodies are subject to~~
Carolski,
The SRs staying at Great Lakes A school were told starting in December that they won't be able to visit their family at the Navy Lodge hotel rooms at all. We haven't heard back from the most recent PIR group if this was still the case. It is the RTC that is forbidding the Sailors to access the Navy Lodge hotel rooms, not the hotel itself~~
If you really want to be worry free and not change to another hotel for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the last minute, I would make alternate arrangements so you and your new Sailor could relax and just stay put~~
