I don't go into chat...on my phone which won't open it..so I will try to do this from memory. Open up the chat room. On the header possibly next to the happy face is a sound icon. Click it, it should put a line through it and mute it. It looks like they changed the header some so I hope I got it right...will check when I get home!

@ Okie  I hit mute on mine so I'm not much help, but you are not the only one with the beeping.

Okay ladies, my computer has started beeping continually while I am on this site.  I think it is tied in to the chat room.  I have not been in the chat room.  How do I make it stop?  It is driving me crazy.

I thank you all so much for the info.  I may be a Navy Wife, but this is all new to me.  Already have our airline tickets to return Sunday. Will be disappointed if he flies out Friday, but Southwest is so good about changes. Hoping he flies on Sat & that we do get time with him at the airport. We are flying in/out of Milwaukee to avoid O'Hare but to be with him just a few more hours will be worth a trip down there. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I am still fighting with my bosses to get the time off...It is coming down to booking flights and calling in sick those days....REALLY BOSSES....I don't care if it's our busiest time of the year, I will only get to see this once..... that's why all this gets so confusing on what to do....(Like I am not all ready confused and overwhelmed by this whole processes already)..... thanks for all of your input....

Guess what? Here is another reason to get the DVD. I was watching a recent youtube that a mom did. It showed the drum core playing (LOVE drum core...I watch "Drumline" just to see it!), and then the Fifity Flag presentation starting...my Seabee walked by and said, "Watcha watching?" I told him and then showed him...then realized that ..he has NEVER seen it! The Sailors are waiting OUTSIDE while the introductory part is going on! He needs to see his OWN DVD just to see that part!

Now, the 900 Divisions are privy to this but all others are not!

BUY the DVD...or make sure your Sailor does!

I must say that I know this is a long and expensive trip to spend one day or maybe a little more with your Sailor. And I understand that some may not be able to do that.  But I will also say that I went to PIR and had only Friday with my Sailor. We didn't get to meet her at the airport and if I had it to do over again I would still GO. I have never been so proud of an accomplishment of one of my kids. I will never regret going and when my son joins the Navy this summer I will be going to PIR again even if I knew I would only get to see him for a couple hours. I would be wanting and hoping for more time but I would be there. I honestly can't even imagine not going. And really nothing has changed from what we, Diannep, FTLW, and myself have been telling you since you came to this page. In most cases if your recruit leaves GL for A-school you will get most of the day with them on PIR Day (7-8 hours) and most of you should be able to meet them at the airport and spend anywhere from one hour to 7 or 8 hours with them on Saturday. It has been like this for a few months and I expect it won't change. There are those few lucky families who may find out when they get there that their Sailors flight isn't until Sunday because of no flights being available and they get extra time with them.  I wish that for all of you. If you decide to go I don't think you will ever regret it.  If you go or not get the DVD :-)

You ALL are FANTASTIC! This is between YOU and your loved one! We just provide the info and our own experiences. I was VERY confused in the first few weeks of Boot Camp...the cost, the time...my voice(s) of reason was/were my son and my hubby. I wish nothing but the best for whatever decisions that you make and will always support you all in what you do! We all will!

If you can gor to PIR, go!  If you only have that day with you SR, it is worth it.  It is quite an experience and the pride I felt, watching my daughters division walk through those doors is one I will never forget. Our daughter stayed at the great lakes for A-school so we were lucky.  Sh took 2 days of leve and we got to spend some time with her.  The other moms that only had graduation day, were not sorry they made the trip.

raeinaz:  You can actually take his personal things with you to PIR.  He has a Navy-issued backpack that some things may fit in---and he is allowed another personal item as carryon.  He can't have much at A School yet...can't wear civilian clothes until he phases up...and you can always mail things to him after he is there.  I hope both of you can make it up there.  It is such a wonderful event...but like FTLW said, it of course is up to each family to decide if they are able to do this financially, work-wise, and life-wise!  It is just such a special time---they so value this time with family after bootcamp.  I have a feeling that your SR would love for you to come up now...let him know you can bring the personal items there (pass them off to him at the airport).  If he still would rather you skip one of you going to PIR and then both head to A School once he phases up instead to visit, totally understand that!
