Jessica: You have been MISSED! So glad you are back!
Hello members. My name is Ruth and I am a recent boot camp graduate mother. Time for me to give back since this site helped me so much when my child was there. My sailor graduated on the 29th of December and is now at the Great Lakes waiting to start A-school. If there are any questions I can answer, please let me know.
Welcome back Jessica, so good to have you here again :-) YAY
Good morning, all.
I agree with what Arwen said about the stress of bootcamp (Navy too) that is hard for them at times and takes adjusting to. Military life is very different and can be difficult. I remind my son that it is an extreme form of "parenting" in a way. The Navy takes care of you (housing, medical, food, etc), but in return, you have strict rules to follow. It is hard for some of them to be under this control sometimes, but they learn. Consequences of violation are pretty extreme. My son has not been sick much in his life, but got the stomach virus the other day...pretty violently. Woke up with it and unlike a civilian job where you can "call in sick," he had to get up, get dressed, get a medical chit. He was wiped out just after doing that because of the virus! But...you do what you have to do, and my feeling is that they are learning wonderful lessons for life. I keep telling him that if he can learn the lessons of the military, he can endure whatever the civilian world has to offer.
Yeah...like I said I originally booked through until Tuesday (hotel at least until I knew better about his departure) then found out it would "probably" be Friday (Thursday PIR) and then had to make a call on it. So, I chose Sunday...kinda the middle road. I was getting in on Tuesday and that was about all my pocketbook could stretch...LOL! I ended up having a "great alignment of the stars" ! :-D
It's not always the same, it depends on whose orders are ready and the alignment of stars in the sky.
The vast majority of new grads (in my experience) get the whole weekend. Those who will ship early are *usually* in the first 2 divisions, although sometimes schools have no room for the incoming students that weekend, or not everyone's orders are ready.
