Yes...my sons plans changed on the Tueday before PIR...he called while I was flying over there! To read a brief synopsis go to the "After PIR Liberty & Friday and Saturday Departures". I bumped it up but here is the direct link. It is basic as far as F & S departures...we know that many Sailors can leave later in the week too.

Don't want to get the hopes up that you will have the full weekend with your sailors (daytime)...that will only happen for the GL A School sailors and some of the ones like Arwen mentioned. But most of them will be shipped out on Sat. Sometimes they ship on Sun if flights are booked. We still advise that all try and book flights back on Sunday afternoon/evening if possible, so that you won't miss any time with your sailors if they are available for the whole weekend. It has been very sad for us N4Moms veterans to read of families that had to say goodbye to their sailors, who had more liberty time, because they thought their sailors would be flying out early Sat morning, so booked their own flights back that same day. Plans can change too...as they did for FTLW's son. She got "bonus" time with her sailor because she had heeded this warning of booking through the weekend...even though he initially told her that his orders had him flying out earlier (orders can change!).
Druing those extended P-days the RDCs do a lot of the training that normally takes place during training days - everything from uniform care to proper watch procedures. By getting all of the non-classroom stuff out of the way in P-days, the official training gets done faster.
The Navy figures it takes 40 training days to get everything done, sometimes they don't quite go in order, especially when everything is screwed up by the holiday schedule.
There are a number of "make-up days" built into the program, because it happens that the pool may be closed, or the rifle range is being fumigated or something, on the days recruits are supposed to be doing these activities. If a division never has to use these make-up days, they may get some pretty relaxed days toward the end of boot camp, when everything is done and they're mostly just marking time.
Also, for many divisions, training is not done by PIR, My son's division was only on day 7-4 at PIR, and had three more days of necessary training after PIR weekend, and finally got their orders and shipped out on Thursday after PIR. Divisions 073, 074 and 913 are likely to have at least one training day after PIR.
Recruits can do whatever they want during their "free hours," including write letters or study, but there is a very specific, very strict rule - no sleeping during free time. That said, time spent "looking for dust bunnies" under a rack is often done behind closed eyelids.
FTLW- you are very, very funny.
I did one of the questionaire letters to my recruite, and at the top I put a spot for Today is week_______ day _______. The actual date is _____________. I figured if she knew that much I could try to figure out the rest.
I had not realized that Dec 28th was their first day of actual training. Where did that info come from? This whole time I have been trying to figure out what the possible first day was.
My SR got to BC on the 14th, and it will be right at 8 weeks when she graduates. If they didn't start training until Dec 28th, what are they skipping?
Hang in there Gypy. While I don't know your SR and I can't make any accurate guesses as to why you haven't gotten a letter, I like to think that it is strictly mail/PO related. I also think it is completely possible that some of the SRs are getting in some much deserved sleep during the allotted letter writing time.
One of the first things newly graduated recruits want is a real shower and a haircut before they go out in public. The Navy provides haircuts, but they're usually pretty bad.My son's haircut was lopsided, and some of the girls cuts... *shudder*
Many of the girls will want a full spa day - haircut, skin, nails... bootcamp is pretty rough on beauty care. They will know what they are allowed (a simple mani/pedi) and what they are not (nail polish).
January 4th......sorry.
Well let's see...if Monday was a holiday and NOT counted then today would be 1-5...if it WAS counted then it is 2-1...because we know that Saturday and Sunday are not counted.
Sound right ladies...or have I been taking too much cough medicine? (Dang cough is BUGGING me today!)
The website for the MWR to order the shirts is not coming up...in fact none of the MWR sites want to come up right now...BUT a mom on the 02/03/2012 PIR found a link or the order form (Yay Jean! and TY!)
Oh thank you for the glimmer of hope! I too have been letter-less and I think my family is about ready to drive to the GL just to pick one up for me! Has anyone out there done PIR in February before? My mom really wants to be there for her Grandson's graduation but never having been to this area ever I am not sure about how brutal the temperatures can get. I have been told that I can get her up to the hall where they will be as she is in a wheelchair and get her through pretty quick but I was just wondering if it really moves along quickly. Can't have her out in the cold!
