Usually not that long, they get paid on the 1st and 15th I believe, I know it is twice a month and my daughter was there about 3 weeks when she got the first check deposited.

IowaMOM - So NOT you! ...hang in there...we all have our days! P.S. Chocolate helps too!

Comment by Arwen on December 30, 2011 at 8:03pm

Letters generally only arrive once a week. Until their 5th week or so they are only allowed to mail letters out on Sunday. After the 5th week they can send mail twice a week (Sunday and Wednesday).

If they're like my kid, you get letters until they start earning calls. The day the calls began, the letters stopped.

It's a fun widget! I wish it had Great Lakesbut Waukegan and Gurnee are close. At Christmas there were lights on the house and a snowman! It is interactive so if you click on the header you can check the weather for later in the day...click any day to see that weather...and click LIVE to go back to the current time. It has four landscapes  to choose from...airport...village (the current one) seaside, and an oriental one!

When it's windy the plants move too!

I love the weather widget above.  Seeing the rain coming down in the fictitious picture makes me empathize with the SRs.  Still, it has not been as cold and snowy as I thought it would be up until this point.  Of course, we still have January and part of Feb to get through.

Okie.  Good idea!  But...she may want to keep some of your letters to read over and over again!  But...I would certainly suggest to her in your next letter and see what she does.

Yes, you can send a larger envelope to her to send back her letters in for you to keep for her.  Not sure how many stamps to put on it...I would say at least 3 or 4?  Not sure...maybe you can ask in the PO.

Thanks for sharing your letter jlvk. Know you are much closer which would explain why the snail mail made it to you first.  Taking it's good old time getting to the east coast, and we live in the country, so even slower. Rcv'd form letter Christmas Eve Day, so hoping for one on New Year's Eve Day.  Happy New Year to you all!

I just had a stroke- OF GENIUS!  Since the kids have to get their own paper, what if I just put in a envelope that is already stamped a couple of times a week.  They can just reply on the back of one of the letters I already wrote.  Takes care of two issues at once.  They don't end up with too much mail in their bunk and they can remember what they need to reply to.

Of course, now that I think about it, that only takes care of one letter a week.  If I send her a bigger envelope to return her letters in will it fit in a regular envelope?  How much postage should I put on it?  Tips on mail, please!

Hope all have a great day today.  If you haven't already, please be sure to go through the discussions above for lots of good info!
