IF you drive (i.e., rental car) and park in the parking structure, then enter through the RTC visitor center, you might just walk right in (we did at first PIR). When we took a cab the second time around, we walked through the gate and lined up outside to the opposite entry and we were in line nearly 40 minutes in 19 degree weather and SNOW.
As a bona fide weather wuss, my toes (and most of the rest of me) were freakin' numb!!!!! And I ended up sick by the time I flew home. I recommend watching the weather and being prepared! It's worth every second of teeth chattering, but--really--if I did this a third time, I'd walk around the building and go in the other entrance and leave unwilling, manly males (aka hubs and other son) who want to stand around in the cold all by themselves!!!
So glad that the calls finally came in from 083/084. Did anyone find out why they didn't go before 085/086? They usually go in numerical order...so I figured they had a training delay.
Congrats to the new sailors!
Ladies....get there early for PIR. We were on the 6:30 PIR shuttle and arrived in the PIR hall a few minutes after 7. There were already a good amount of people in there...but still plenty of seating (top row of bleachers...leaning against concrete wall...always goes first and our division's section in that row was already taken). If you are driving, you need to be in the line much earlier than that. This is not a huge PIR group, so traffic shouldn't be terrible...we had 9 divisions in my son's PIR group and I'm still glad we arrived when we did.
1ProudMama: Lala always tells people NOT to get in the far right lane since it eventually merges left (and the people in that next lane aren't too happy!). There will be signs directing you.
You start the checkin in one bldg....if you get there early you should be able to stand inside and then you walk across the street and down a sidewalk to get to the hall where PIR is held. Those doors should be open when you arrive, so again you should not have to stand outside. If you are used to the cold weather you might be ok with a lighter coat and not your heavy winter coat, since you are flying...or plan to wear layers.
Does anyone know how long we have to stand outside before PIR? Not sure whether to bring my heavy winter coat or not - flying, and it takes up so much room! I'm from Maine so am use to the cold weather.
ladies, we will be sitting in bleachers so I am one to just wear comfortable shoes. Believe me...no one will be looking at your feet and when you take pictures, you will probably not include feet in those either. Be comfortable! Everyone's eyes will be straining to see their sailors!! Travel safe! We are nearly packed and heading to bed early so we can leave Virginia before the sun comes up!
Got my call!!!! So happy and so proud. Congrats to Div 084.
See you in GL.
So glad we're all getting calls. My connection wasn't great either, HarpistMom, but soooo glad for you, too!
I got my call!!! I HAVE A SAILOR!! The connection was not good but it was great to hear his voice!
