Yes, yes, my daughter in law received her form letter and my son is on Ship 11, Div 83, PIR date of 3/9, so I get to stay here and chat. The date he left was 1/11, so he's been through his processing days, and must be on week 2! I've taken all of your advice and have a slew of letters to send, and recently included ones with pictures, silly jokes, a little news, tons of humor, and some fill in the answer questions he can return. So I'm a happy camper, I have an address and I'm a gonna share it! Can you hear me singing? Coz I am,,,,,
bahkmom09/86 My son left on 1/17 and is Ship 9, Div 087. If your son is Div 086, are they together at all? I have not received my letter yet but received the box today. It's great to hear that things are going well for your son and his div. When did he leave? I'm praying for PIR on 3/9. Maybe I'll see you at graduation. All the best to you and your SR!!
yahoo!! Got our letter today....our SR is PIR 3/9. He is ship 9 Div 86. He said things are going well...the guys in his div seem pretty cool. Off to get some letters in the mail.
This will be posted periodically for the first month to catch any new members.
N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC
Hello Everyone.
Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!
Sailors LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended.
FIRST names ARE allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. This is a public forum and anyone can read the posts-they do not have to be a member (if the group is set to private, the public cannot read but all N4M members can-so all you have to do is join) While they use their last names in BC (in fact they don't usually, if ever, find out each other’s first names until the end of BC), the RDC's know who they are and can then, with the right amount of info, link them up to you. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...easy to match up...and so on.
Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. There have been reports from moms of their recruits being matched up with them. Some are just identified…some get IT (Intensive Training), I am guessing this depends on WHAT is posted…I know of one mom who said that her son had to do 5 push-ups just for every time she posted!
The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-Operational Security. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance. Some moms have mentioned that even today after years they do not know EXACTLY what their sailor does.
SPECOPS...definitely need to be VERY careful.

Thank You.
Hrumph...they usually do it on Mondays...unless it's a federal holiday.
FTLW... Yeah, I checked it this morning... I know, I know, patience is a virtue, but this is crazy!
Well, RTC has NOT posted the info for this TG yet. Hopefully tomorrow...I'll keep checking.
Yes...the first three weeks are tough. Diannep's info is spot on! (as always!)They are transitioning from a "civilian" mentality to a military one. Be prepared for very homesick and "what did I do this for?" letters" ...it will pass! Do exactly what you have done...send encouragement!
"P" days are hard...very mentally tasking. No physical training until they are cleared FFD - Fit For Duty. Once that happens...Week 1 Day1...then the PT is added. You have to have a strong mind...most do...they just don't know it yet! Boot Camp is the beginning of that revelation. I've seen some past posts by moms of recruits who get discharged within the first 48 hours (you are up for most of those 48) complain that its wrong to "treat" our recruits in such a way...my question is...what will that recruit do when his ship has two holes blown in it? Or when enemy aircraft is coming towards it? If they can't handle hustling and "gettin' it done"...how are they going to handle the rigors and sometimes complete boredom of military life...and the often rapid transitions between the two?
They are "okay"...they just don't know it yet! So are you!
One of the reasons I love the PIR groups so much is the excitement of the "newness" ...being able to support you and then watching all of you transition down the road!
Luckily, I didn't have a letter like that one. I am sure it will get better Amy. My daughter seemed to be doing well. No complaints at all from her, except missing us - but that is normal.
The next contact from him should be better.
Thanks for the warning Amy. I did not get a letter yet but now I know it may not be what I was expecting. Your son must know how strong you are or he would probably hide his feelings. I'm sure his next letter will sound better. These first weeks must be so draining on them, emotionally and physically. Congrats on your PIR date -- 3/9/12 will be here before you know it:) Hang in there!
