msanna its been over a year and I still tear up when I talk about the day my son left. I even get emotional when I read these early posts on here, because I know exactly how you are feeling. I am usually a stonge person, but when it comes to our kids and missing them, I guess that will never change. Afterall we are moms.
bahkmom: Glad to have another N4Moms veteran on with us to help out! Your son PIRed the month after mine did.
Welcome, msanna! Yes, you will find lots of company/info on this site. And understanding! Like when people compare kids going off to college with kids going off to bootcamp......Ahhhhh....NOPE! Not the same! Both adjustments, yes, but having contact through a cell phone/laptop makes all the difference with that college student.
A BIG THANK YOU to all you veteran PIR moms who have formed this group for all us newbees... All this information is extremely helpful and informative. Im glad you ladies take the time to inform us even after your sailors have PIR'ed. I think id be a basketcase if i hadn't found this site. I was a complete mess when my daughter first left us on Jan 10th... i cried for days at the drop of a hat... i couldnt even talk about it without breaking down. I thought there was something wrong with me. I was never .. i mean NEVER so emotional! and then i found this sight and realized i wasnt the only one missing their child desparately. I still havent gotten a phonecall but i did get the "box" ...I cried of course. And yesterday we got the form letter.. my daughter wrote us a quick note on the back...and of course i cried again! Well, just wanted to thank you veteran moms for setting up this PIR mar9 group!!!
Good morning ladies....like many of you I have not received the letter from my son yet, but it looks like this might be the right group. I am both a new mom and a returning mom. My older son PIRed in March 2010. Just to let you know, it is not any easier the second time around. The only advantage is I already know the lingo and what to expect. Hang in there it really does get better.
But you could be on early in the morning and at night, right? Like before? I hope so!
Good morning all!
Jessica: Hope you get that job closer to home and during daylight hours!
