just got another message. This person is active duty who is at medical with my son, so it seems it is an actual physical hearing problem. I find this very strange because wouldnt that type of thing been determined in the very beginning? I remember he passed his hearing test at MEPs just fine. I really wish I new what is going on. This is so not cool!

Thank you for the info. The more I read this message the more it sounds like my son got into trouble and was told he can't call me until he gets his hearing fixed, not an actual medical issue because that would have been caught a long time ago.  If that is the case I am now angry with him for doing this to me. I did call public affairs and they said he is listed as still in training and that I should get a call today or tomorrow. BUT my problem is would they really do this so close to when I was supposed to leave?? I feel like I am going to throw up I am so sick over this. I cannot believe that this could happen. I did send a message to his gf who I do not even know on fb because I just found out he had added her to the list (which I am not happy about) and gave her his bank info so she could book a flight and hotel too. He never told me. I guess all I can do now is wait. It just really stinks because I was finally no longer stressed and worried about getting there and now I am stressed and worried that I wont be able to go! Just a total nightmare. Thanks for the advice though. Fingers are crossed that it all works out some how!

blondi:  MSmom gave you great advice.  Hoping that PAO can help you figure this out.  If he is not graduating, he is allowed to call...but could he have decided to call a friend rather than you?  That is possible as they are told that they can "call" but they are not made to call nor told who to call, and so that is possible.

I sure hope this isn't true.  Please post on here and let us know what PAO told you.  In the meantime...prayers.

FYI this text most likely came from a g mail acct. not a cell phone

Blondi. Call public affairs. 847-688-2405. They will be able to tell you if the graduation date has changed. Unfortunately they will not be able to give you any other information. Rest assured your sr will be given the opportunity to call if they are being set back. My son was set back so I know the waiting is hard.

I need advice again ASAP please! I just received a text this morning from someone saying that my son couldnt call me but that he wasn't graduating because he has to get his hearing fixed!? I do not understand what is going on? I thought that someone would call me if he wasn't graduating on time? I don't know what to do. Bawling right now, totally devistated and confused. How could I not get a call from either my son or a commanding officer, medical personel etc? A text message from another boy doesn't seem right to me? I am just sick over this. Not only that apparently my son is not graduating on time and I wont see him but a non refundable flight and hotel means money I borrowed to get there is wasted and I will not be able to pay it back or have an oppurtunity to see my son if the option arises again because I will have burned those bridges. I hope someone responds soon because I am a total basket case! Thank you.

Good Morning Everyone!

Thanks for the info Lala. It will be very helpful with driving on base, and getting the best pictures.

We are pretty close - only a 5 hour drive, so we are not leaving until Thursday morning to go to GL.

I am soo excited to see my daughter, especially after talking to her on Friday.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on March 5, 2012 at 7:55am

I know some of you will be leaving as early as tomorrow to head to PIR. I wish you all a wonderful trip. I know you will have a great time with your new Sailors and will be full of pride. Be flexible, have fun and please travel safely.

Helpful Info:

If you are planning to drive to the base: don't line up in the far right lane the morning of PIR. That lane ends, so stay to the left of it and it will save you lots of wait time. If time allows check your route the day before PIR.

When you get into the PIR Hall take some practice shots with your digital camera. If you sit in the balcony you will most likely have railing in your pics so the lower level is better for pictures. Change your settings until you get the best pictures possible with the lighting and environment you are in. You can even try turning off your flash to see what results you would get.  Your pictures will come out much better and you will be glad you took the time to do it.

If you go to Gurnee Mills Mall keep track of the amount of time you have. That mall is huge and there are no pass through stores or hall ways to work as short cuts. It is Z shaped so if you start at one end you have to go back to where you started the same way you came. And, you don’t want to get your Sailor back to the base late.

If your Sailor tells you the day of PIR that they will be on a chartered flight you won’t get to meet them at the airport. They go straight from the base to the Jet and don’t come inside. This doesn’t happen very often but it did happen to us and we didn’t really say goodbye on Friday night because we thought we would have several hours with her at the airport. Had we known we wouldn’t see her at the airport our goodbye wood have been different and we wouldn’t have been at the airport searching for her. I really doubt this will happen to any of you but it is good to know the possibilities just in case.

I have enjoyed to getting to know so many of you and I hope to hear from you again. Let us know how your trip and PIR went and what you think of your new Sailor :-)

I haven't heard that there is a BattleStations tonight...but we can't post dates here anyway.  Did you get the schedule that I sent out by Message to Group last week?  If not, please message me and I would be glad to give you the date I have for your division.
