The sound of my SR's voice is even better than a Mozart symphony...  All of the wonderful things he told me made the deep depression I've been in go away.  I haven't had a happy day since he left, but he just made this day soooo much better!!

I JUST GOT A PHONE CALL!!!! (yes, I am shouting!). It was great to hear from my son. He is on week 2 day 5. He said he was in processing for 13 calendar days. That sounds like a lot! He says that they yell at the recruits a lot and he doesn't have much time to do anything (like short time for a shower). He did say not to send him anything bulky b/c they make him open the letters. I didn't know at first, so I sent him a newspaper article and he had to throw it away. He did say that he passed his first PFA (physical fitness assessment) which is one out of three total. He said only about 25% of his group passed it. He said he has written me and my parents; however he does not have much time to write. It was funny when he said that everyone was jealous of him after the first mail call because he received ten letters! I passed his address to people at church and he said he was getting mail from people he didn't even know! :) Well, my day is "made." So wonderful to get that call, even though the connection was not good.

Good morning everyone.  Hope all have a good day and that more letters are leaving RTC today...heading towards your mailboxes!

Comment by AmyN on February 6, 2012 at 2:10am

Thank you Dianne and Amy. I do know that he is fine and in good hands, it's just that I miss him so much. I know when I get a letter, I will feel much better. I have written him about 20. I hope he has gotten some of them. I'm nervous about getting a call, because I don't want him to hear me cry and I know it will be very hard to hold it in. That is why I am hoping for a letter first, so I can get my wits about me before he calls. Amy, your son sounds like a funny guy. I love it. BTW, my name is Amy too. :)

If anyone lives in the Greenville SC area or even within a couple hours drive like Charlotte or Atlanta, Southwest.com airlines is offering flights to Chicago for only $67.00. They also have these flights from other cities as well so it is worth checking into.

Comment by AmyaodRN on February 5, 2012 at 3:39pm

JessicaB- I realized that was how others got mail. The problem was his recruiter didn't get me the address until the day before I got the form letter, so I really couldn't have sent anything any earlier. I had been in contact with hime for a week, and didn't get any useful info until my SR had already been gone for 10 days.
