Yeah...one thing the recruiters NEED to tell the recruits is that your family IS writing if they say they are going too and what it takes before they actually get mail. Time...unfortunatley. In this day and age ...snail mail is a thing of the past...for communicating so it must seem even longer! I live all the way across country too and that's even longer. I did not want the wrong address because that would've even taken longer!

Amy...thanks for sharing...I know when I was waiting for mail (I only got one letter and my questionnaire, no GF...so I was  Sa-ad...but understood later!...he had been sick for all of BC!), hearing about others helped some.

So he is WPO...woo-hoo!

I know the song!! I thought of the same thing. He also said his buddies were very sportive supportive as he waited for mail, they reminded him if his "awesomeness" with his crow. Then they were all jealous when he got his 36 letters, lol

Amy:  HAAA!  Ok, that reminded me of the "camp" song from years back...may be dating myself here:

Hello, mudder, hello, fadder, here I am in, Camp Grenada...

then it talks about everything wrong with the camp, including rain...but at the end, the sun comes out, and he asks that they kindly disregard this letter!  :-)

So glad that he received his 36 letters!  HOOYAH!

My boyfriend didn't think that he was going to get any the first day they passed out mail and when they called his name he got really excited. He got 7 letters from me. He was so happy. I didn't send them all at the same time, that way he could get a few one day a few the next and that way there wouldn't be any days he didn't get any. I have written to him all but 2 days since he was been gone.

I will say it was sad reading in his letters that on Saturday, Jan. 21 the first letters started to arrive in his division. That day he writes "So a few guys got letters today. It almost made me a little sad. But my day will come." That was the day I actually GOT the address, ugh!

The next day had "some good and some bad"... He got a PO2 crow as the new division Weapons PO. "The bad, today my division got mail. We couldn't send, not until next Sunday, but they received. I was one of the many people who didn't, only 4 or 5 guys got anything. But it was still a little heartbreaking." Boy I'd like to get my hands on his recruiter for not getting me that damn address for my son earlier!!!

The next day "Unfortunately, it was another day with no mail. Which, again, was a bit of a downer. Not blaming you, just so you know." My poor SR, I didn't get to SEND the letters until that day!!

The next day I get "P.S you could have started sending letters as soon as you got that paper." Like I was just waiting for WHAT to send the letters??? Poor guy.

Then 2 days later..."I got 36 letters today mom. After all this time eagerly waiting, and today just filled my heart. Unfortunately, I can't read them all tonight." ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Then at the end of the same letter "Oh and disregard my sad-sacking about lack of letters."

By Sunday he still had 30 something left to read. No wonder he didn't have time to write to anyone.

They got their NWUs a while ago, Friday Jan. 20th, from what I can tell in the letters.

My son says the day they got the NWUs he and the guys "were doing our "sexy and I know it" thing (obviously)HAHA." That is straight from one of the letters, I have some good quotes to add to the list of top funny things they send home in their letters, that is one of them.

Also:

"Today was the day we got our freaking shots. Mike complains about charlie horses? HA!!! Have him get this shot right up his left cheek so he can't walk straight or sit straight all damn day." (Mike is my husband)

"Saturday night in a bunk at 8PM with 80+ guys? I could think of a few better ways to spend my time."

I LOVE them

aninms - Sorry, I do know how it feels waiting and still nothing. It will come, and tomorrow is Sunday, so more will come after that. I can tell you that my letters from my son had been written over 2 weeks. He didn't even have time to write anyone this Sunday, because he was so busy reading all the letters he had received, and never even got to read the ones from his sister. Hang in there, this too shall pass!

Comment by diannep on February 4, 2012 at 4:07pm

aninms:  So sorry...just know that during A School, there is communication again!  But like Bahkmom said, after that, if they are on a ship and deployed, contact is sporadic again.  Hang in there...know that your SR is safe, being mentored, trained, taught, evaluated, fed well, sleeping well, and watched over.  He is safe in his rack at night when you go to sleep...not "out".  When my son was in bootcamp, I found peace in thinking of these things when there was little contact.

Comment by AmyN on February 4, 2012 at 12:08pm

MEJ he is in 11/084. Still no letter today. I can't remember a time when I was more sad.

Comment by ehuds on February 3, 2012 at 11:56pm

Bahkmom, your advice is so true, this is only a training ground for things to come, although there will be plenty of periods during our sailors' service that there will be communication. I'm glad that most of you are getting letters and pray that those that aren't, will get theirs soon. My son said that his RDC's expect only 55 will graduate out of an original 80 recruits and he is determined to be the best of the best. He's in Div 83. Wow, what a difference a few weeks make! I am like all of you, so proud of our loved ones going thru this experience. That one short letter is extremely heartwarming to know that he is being challenged and he is up to the task.
