harpist mom - I know you are upset, but just know you and your son are not alone! The first three weeks are very hard for most...everything is so new and different...has to be done yesterday! They are stripping down the civilian and putting on the Navy man. It DOES get better!
As far as security info calls...these are common in the first week or two of BC. Anyone who has a rating (Navy term for their job specialty) that requires security clearance has provided information before they leave...the Navy asks for more once they get to BC. Mine called home and needed two more contacts. Some are asked for it right there and in the past...still might...some are asked to fax it. Very brief call...usually NO social time allowed (though I have heard of the very rare time that it has been allowed by the individual monitoring the call)...and they are being told to get the info and get off.
Hang in there...I know it is upsetting...mine was and this site is what got me through it!
wow thank you so much!! I will look over all of it and I appreciate all of your help!!
mandiekaye04 - Well...the bottom line is you can't deny anyone getting married. ..as long as they are of age. But he will be in the mikitary and will have a COC - Chain of Command. He would have to speak with his RDC's in Boot Camp. I don't know what the policies are and in the military things can move like molasses and they can move like a roaring river!
Some of the difficulty is where and when does he leave for "A" school.
If he is flying out of state for "A" school then it is most likely a very small window for this. Most that fly out of state only have PIR day with their loved ones. They are taken to the airport the morning after PIR around 1-2 AM...then wiat therer for their flight.
Those staying at Great Lakes for "A" school might have an easier time of it as they have liberty during the day until about 8-10 PM each night. Again, should check on policies.
You'd have to check the laws and such for the area. I think I found a discussion on it...it's from last June. I have skimmed through it and will give you the link. Please read all the way through the posts...I believe there is Courthouse info and such. One couple did it.
Getting Married in Great Lakes
Then there is this one:
Getting Married the weekend of PIR
...and this:
Also, there are a lot of posts on the discussion forum that might have info.
This is the main Group and I am sure there are ladies over there that have advice:
Girlfriends, Fiances,and Wives of Sailors
(All the underlined are clickable links and will open into a new page)
Robin can start one for Div 087!
...should clarify....those who have received the form letters and know their division numbers can start the discussion group for that division. So, ReedsMom? Want to start one for 085? Just hit "Add a Discussion" and put in Division 85 as the title. You can put the ship number too if you like...but that is just their barracks, so the division number is the important thing.
Ladies, time to start discussions above for your division! Scroll through first (hit VIEW ALL) and make sure someone else hasn't started one yet, but if not, maybe you could? One per division please. A great place to get to know each other.
harpist mom: So sorry about the mixup. I feel sure they will get it straightened out, but sorry he has to go through it. Yes, some of them have more processing days than others. My son PIRed 2 yrs ago and he had about 8-9 days of processing after he arrived.
harpist mom. That's a long time for processing. WOW!! My heart goes out to both of you. I hope things go smoother for him from here on out. Keep us posted..
Reedsmom. My son is Ship 09, Div 087 (Must be close by). No letter from him yet. I guess they are in this together, like us!!
Thank you, MEJ. We appreciate the prayers.
harpist mom. I am so sorry to hear this news. My son arrived that night as well. Processing days take awhile. I see that there is so much to take care of. I am sure they will work this out. Your in my thoughts and prayers.
Got my form letter lesterday - Ship 09, Div 085. Anyone else with my son?
