DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

jr:  Do you mean that your new sailor stays in GL for A School?  If so, then you will have Friday afternoon/part of the evening (once your sailor moves over there after PIR is over), plus Sat. and Sun. Daytime Liberty.  Your sailor must return to base each night.

If flying out for A School, you will have Friday after PIR until about  8 or 9 pm and then they most likely will be bussed to the airports later that night, usually in the wee hours of the morning.  You can meet them at the airports and visit there with them.

How do we find out how much time SR has for liberty? My son goes from GL to A school.

Comment by diannep on February 16, 2014 at 9:53pm

Just a caution to please not post any SR last names on this site---not allowed.  Only allowed to be private messaged, no posts on here.  If you posted a SR's last name, please copy/paste your post into a new one w/out the name, and then delete the original post by clicking on the "x" in the post box.  Thanks!

If the first mail call is tomorrow for some divisions, the SRs will be receiving the mail you have sent to them which has been held until they had their Recruit Mail Petty Officer trained.  So....don't be surprised if the first letter you get from them asks why you haven't written?  They usually write their letter before they have this first mail call and receive our letters.

Natalia:  Please check the reviews on the Ramada Inn there....you may want to change to Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Holiday Inn Express, or Residence Inn....or Navy Lodge (book Navy Lodge in your SR's name since he/she has the military ID).  Navy Lodge is the closest and very reasonable.  The other hotels I mentioned are all close together, near Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR....and are nice.  Call the hotels directly and ask for the Navy Grad rate.  They are in the Waukegan/Gurnee area, about 4-5 miles from RTC.  Here is a link to the Ramada reviews.  Check it out:

Tomorrow is a federal holiday, so they will have holiday schedule (Sunday schedule).  It does not count as one of their training days.

Comment by diannep on February 16, 2014 at 9:42pm

Jami:  Your SR will have to tell you what his/her job is.  Ask questions in a letter, or better yet, you can make a short questionnaire up (or use the ones posted in the "pages" section above, under the MEMBERS PHOTO BOX)....so it is easy for them to answer many of your questions.

The 900 divisions include many who do not actually perform on the drill floor, but they have responsibilities at PIR with the VIPs, holding doors, etc...mostly behind-the-scenes work.

Comment by GreenFish on February 16, 2014 at 9:32pm

The 900 divisions are performance divisions.  More info at this link

I don't know what my SR's job could be yet...I haven't gotten a call. :(

Natalia - you can call FedEx at 1-800-463-3339. Give them the package number on the door tag and see if they can assist.
