Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thanks for your encouraging words. ellen0502. I know after BC we will be able to keep in touch just getting through these next few weeks will be hard. I know what you mean about Triggers. My boyfriend and I went to Lone Star the other night and my son loved the bread there. I cried the whole time we there. I feel guilty enjoying the things that I know he would be enjoying. I am a restaurant manager and policy is no cell phones.... I have already had to tell my staff sorry for being Hypocritical but my cell phone stays with me... Yesterday I was making a guest's order and I got a call from a 800 number I had to apologize and walk away to answer right in the middle of it. Luckily she was a mom of 3 and understood after I came back and explained. :)

We are from Iowa ;) Sunny but cold today! Brightens the day up a little though! Yes checked mail and no letter:( That's okay he will get it here sometime. I just want to send my letters out grrrrrr. I don't like him at least not hearing from home:( Time and patients, I am by far not a patient person lol!!!

Momma J. So glad to meet somebody in the same DIV. We received the letter but the date is wrong on it. It said Thursday 10th. I sent an email to RTC and they replied and said it definitely is the wrong date. They are scheduled for 4/4. Where did your son come from? Mine NC.

Seth'smom, He will change, but the change will just make him more of what he already is.
I can't say it gets any easier, but it does get better as you become accustomed to being a Navy mom. You will have a lot of first while your son is in BC, and that is the hardest. As those pass, things will start to change for you.
The grocery store seems to be an "outside" trigger for many. The first time you reach for something that was your sons favorite, and then realize you don't need it, can bring it out. Many, including me, have had to finish shopping with tears in our eyes.
Keep your phone with you all the time as calls can come anytime. Yes, even take it to the bathroom and out to the mailbox. :)

The "change" part is not about who they are....that stays so no worries...there is just a maturity that they display that really is respectable!

Seth's mom: Same Ship same division; ) my son is 19, my only child so this is so so hard! Yes you keep hearing they will be a changes man when you see them next! I don't want to hear that either! Don't get me wrong, I want my son to be as successful as he can be in life! But at the same time you want them to stay your babies forever. What is really tough is when a statement is made to us as mother's, " he don't need you to take care of him any more", that pulls on the heart strings just a tad!
I just want my FORM LETTER!! I want to send my son his letters, and receive a letter from him! I miss him terribly. It is so so hard! I want to know that he is okay and surviving. I know he is, but I need to hear his voice saying that to me.
I hope our boys are giving each other comfort! I hope they become friends, and for a life time! That is one thing I want my son to take out of this, of course I cannot wait until I can call my son a United States Navy Sailor, but to cherish what he has in life. Friendships, MOTHERS (lol), father's, relatives and of course respect for all Military! !!! Cannot wait to talk to him!
