~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

900 divisions are the performing divisions.  Some will perform musically, others will perform VIP duties behind the scenes.  They normally will perform in the two PIRs before their own, as well as in their own.  That is why families may get a peek at their SRs early when RTC FB posts pictures of the PIRs, or.....better yet....watch the Livestream of the PIR and see them as they perform!

Pictures are fine to send, but scan/print them on the backs of your letters or on a separate sheet of paper....for 2 reasons:  One, makes the envelope where it isn't thick so they won't have to open it in front of their RDCs, and Two, they have very little storage space so this makes it easier to keep pictures.  Print collage-style so they have lots to look at!

One more thing....the mail is held from them for about 2 weeks....that is because the Recruit Mail Petty Officer must be trained before the mail can start flowing.  They normally are given mail on a Sunday for the first time, and they can write the first time then too.  Mailout day is Monday.  Then, they will start receiving mail M-F each week, but mailout day will always be Monday.

hello navy moms in training!!!

my son left from Portland and arrived 2/5 at the rtc.  I however live in northern Arizona.  he is my 2 of 4 children and 1 of 3 boys.  this is new for me and I can not thank you enough for this site!!!! I have siblings and family members in other branches but this is the first in the navy.

I received my "kid in a box" on Monday and was so grateful!!  I realized how stinky he can be and how messy he still is, lol.  I am hoping all of that will change soon.  today when I got home from work the from letter was here!!!  it all is so real now and I am so excited for this new journey he is taking.

I am so proud of him and I hope to see him soon online at the other PIRs.  I can not wait to meet you all and I am so grateful to have you to ride this roller coaster with me.
