OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My SR ordered everything so I didn't know if it was already paid for by him or if I had to pay for them at PIR.  He didn't tell me if he had paid.

diannep:

I just read what nytesail had posted from NavyforDads and it was mentioned that the pictures and DVD must be paid for with cash.  This post was from 2009, does this still hold true?

The advice below about going EARLY to PIR is the most important advice we veterans can give you all.  It is SO important.  You get much better choice in seating and can relax a bit.  We left our hotel on the 6:30 shuttle (10 minute ride) and were the 2nd through the security gatehouse when we arrived.  Were in PIR Hall a few minutes after 7.  You can bring in snacks and eat your breakfast while waiting.  Although the celebration doesn't actually start until 9 a.m., there are videos going on and we loved "people watching", especially the little children dancing around in their NAVY BEST!  So cute!

Teresa:  Yes....there will be sailors posted on the base with wheelchairs and they will wheel whoever needs one into the PIR Hall.  And back out again!  The walk from the front gate is probably about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile.
