For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on May 12, 2013 at 4:43pm: The frustration with a division not working together happens alot. They get it together, even if it may take "asmoing" (setting back) some SRs who won't comply. But usually, they get it done! You will see this at PIR.... :-)

The questionnaire CO-Twin was talking about is one she made up herself to mail to her SR and get some info back. Some of our SRs don't give us info at all and maybe don't even answer questions we have written to them in our letters to them. There are several questionnaires up in the "Writing Letters--Jokes and Fun Stuff..." up in the Pages section under the members photos. Alot of them you can convert to PDF and change and add questions about things you want to know. For example, I changed alot of things to make it relevant to my SR daughter. Then print out and include with one of your letters, asking them to return it to you. You might want to include a SASE envelope to get them to fill it out quicker!! It's a fun thing to do and they have fun filling it out!!

Comment by diannep on May 12, 2013 at 4:40pm: I don't want to infer that all or even most medical diagnoses made at Bootcamp are in error. Not true. But....if there is a way to get more testing done for a diagnosis while still at Bootcamp, I feel from what I have learned on here that is the best route to go, if possible. Once you leave Bootcamp w/out fighting it, it sometimes is harder to get back in if a condition was diagnosed in error or is treatable.

Comment by ellen0502 on May 12, 2013 at 3:28pm: SoProud, CO-Twin was talking about the BootCamp questionnaire that can be sent to your sailor. It has fun questions to ask him about BC. If you look in the pages section just under the member icons you will see a "pages" column, the questionnaire is there. Click on the link to take you to it's page.
