N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Diannep. I will look forward to visiting a new part of the country. Twin1 will be out of Virginia so it is good to hear a little about that area. I think his twin who will PIR with this group will end up on the other side of the country after two years of A school on the East coast, Hawaii.

Karen. I know exactly what you mean. I really felt the loss with my second twin leaving for BC. I feel like the best part of my life is done. I am trying to look forward to new plans. But I cherish memories of 19 action packed, adventures of being their mom. I also can look to a future of hearing about and observing the adventures they are embarking on.

linda1963,

No worries. Just a friendly reminder.  My Sailor daughter is so glad she chose the Navy and is doing something that will move her life forward in a career she can step into in the private sector: IT!  ((HUG))

For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, please check out www.pirgifts.com .  They have Challenge Coins, which are a military tradition.  Craig, who is one of thei administrators on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC.  The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion section.  When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins.  This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days!  Another really sharp coin is the Core Values one in the section where 70 other coins are available--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge.  These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and family.

OK FTLW I am taking it...LOL

For those of you with sailors staying in GL for A School.

After PIR you will have about an hour with them before they have to report back to their ship on the RTC side and be bussed over to the other side (TSC) to check in. That process can take several hours and they will call you when they are ready for liberty for the rest of the day. Keep your phones handy and answer all calls!!! This call can come from any area code as the sailors who are already in school may let your SAILOR borrow their cell phone. They will have liberty until approx 10pm (time may vary). Take them back early they cannot be late!!!!

On Sat and Sunday they should also have liberty from approx 6am to 10pm. Times sometimes vary from ship to ship and "situation" may also interfere on the times. On Sat and Sun you will have to check your SAILOR out of his/her ship and back into the ship at night. It must be the same person to check them out in the morning that checks them in at night. Get them back early because they cannot be late.

On Sat and Sun you may be able to drive your SAILOR back to the ship to check them out in the morning and back in at night. Although your gate pass from the RTC won't "work" on the TSC side it may help you drive on to base. Your SAILOR must be with you when you drive on to base, you cannot drive in without them. Now, if you can't drive on to base you will have to walk with them back to their ship to check them out in the morning and back in at night. Be prepared it is a long walk from the gate to their ships.

If you can get to the gate early on Friday afternoon before you get the phone call saying they are ready to leave, do so. All of the new sailors march from their ships to the gate for liberty. You can hear the cadence start in the distance as they leave their ship and head to the gate, then watch them march down the street to the gate.

If you are waiting at the gate when you get the call to pick them up, the anticipation, when you hear the next group making their way to the gate, as to whether your SAILOR is in that group, is almost as good as waiting for the doors to open at PIR.

Thank you diannep, How wonderful and exciting!

Yes, SoProud.  After Liberty is called, the RDCs will be there on the floor with your sailors.  I hope you get to meet your new sailor's!

Ladies, the flip side of your sailors being stationed away from home...they may be in a place that you will love to visit every now and then!  Mine was in VA....very near to Williamsburg.  So....I went up there a couple of times and we stayed in Williamsburg (about 30 minutes from his base).  It was so much fun and we saw such great history!  One time, he brought a shipmate with him who was a history buff, so we had our very own tour guide!  It was wonderful....

I visited in the Fall when the scenery was so beautiful.  Being in S FL, we don't have a "change of seasons" like that so I loved the "colors!"

Comment by SoProud on May 29, 2013 at 10:29pm

Karen, very well said! We must focus on all the positive things, we must stay strong, Navy mom strong!

Any of you Ladies know if we get to meet our SRs RDC? My son has a great respect for his RDC and it would be a pleasure to meet him and thank him for all his hard work.
