Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Ooops, sorry, CatMom!  See you had answered about the flights already!

Good girl, navywife2015!  Remind him that A School is NOTHING like Bootcamp....contact is back!  He can do it!

Ladies, in order for cdav8992 to send you the names of the SRs needing mail, you will need to friend request her and once she accepts, she can email them to you.  In the friend request, put in:  Please send me names of SRs to write to.....so she knows the purpose of the request!  A great thing to do, by the way.  I did that for many and got many answers back!  They LOVE getting mail!

cjbmom:  Hotels recommended by others on this site are:

Navy Lodge (book in SR's name if you do not have military ID) plus....Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.....these last 4 are close together, about 4-5 miles from RTC (10 min) close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR.  Navy Lodge is a little over a mile from RTC. Call these last 4 hotels direct and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.  Navy Lodge has good rates already.  If Navy Lodge is full, keep calling back because they get cancellations!  Do not wait on hotel reservations....there is a Six Flags nearby and the hotels book up fast!  No penalty if you cancel by day before/day of arrival in most cases.

For those looking for flights, check out Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic, but one of the airports the SRs fly from to A School).  Southwest never charges a change fee, in the event your SR gets delayed (mine did!). Also, 2 bags check for free!

Hi cdav8992, Please send me some of the names and addresses of people in her division that are not expecting mail.  I will be happy to send some words of encouragement their way!

What about places to stay in Great Lakes?  Any good deals on rooms?  I will be coming on June 25.

Comment by CatMom509 on May 18, 2015 at 2:19am

Southwest Airlines has really good rates, no change fee if plans change, and 2 bags check for free!  They only fly into Chicago Midway (1 hour plus from Great Lakes) and Milwaukee, which is about 40 mins away from Great Lakes and an easy drive~

cdav8992,

The Mail Petty Officer probably has not been trained yet, so once that happens, the SRs will get all your letters daily. Try to space out letters and cards from other members of your family so your SR gets somethng everyday.  That is sweet of your SR daughter to gather up names of other SRs who need mail~~
