For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Around Christmas there is an Adopt A Sailor program, some of the TG get to participate. Other than thatm nope everyday is the same. Federal holidays are treated like weekend days.

Comment by diannep on May 22, 2013 at 7:13pm: For those who do want to go into Chicago, it might be better to take the train. The station is right there by RTC. Many do this....just allow plenty of time to get back because they cannot be late!

shirleyann: You all can make plans but remember that your new sailor may want to rest some in the hotel room, use his phone and laptop---and relax a little....they have been cooped up on that base for so long and this is the first "freedom" they have experienced in a while. Some are so tired, they just want to sleep for a while. So let the girls make plans...but keep them flexible! :-)

Shirleyann, I dont think they recommend going into Chicago. They have a short mile radiation area they can visit and have to be back on base by (I think 10, which really means 9 to check in). Not sure its worth the risk. I understand there are lots of things to do in GL and I think we'll just hand around and see the area, let her rest and EAT ANYTHING SHE WANTS! LOL. I plan to pack some snacks for her!

Comment by shirleyann on May 22, 2013 at 6:26pm: How soon do we and our SR's know how long we are going to be able to have them after graduation? My daughters are planning a jam packed event. He is going to "A" school in Pensacola...So far it is see Chicago in a day and eat every 5 minutes.....
