Why am I not surprised that you scored high enough to be a nuke? LOL That's my girl!
My first reaction to hearing "nuke" is - no! don't do that! pick something else. But that's me. If is what you want to do, then go for it. I'm more conservative, so I would pick something that was more certain, had a good retention rate, and was valuable to post-military life. I hear for the nukes, there is a high suicide rate, much competitiveness and possibility of failure (thus going to the fleet as un-designated). Recruiters don't always tell the whole story. Also, keep in mind the talk in Congress et al. about cutting back on the military too. What do they need and what would transfer to civilian life? I'm thinking nuke certainly would because we need power (and teachers), but so would nursing or information technology.
I know the military is being very fussy about who they take in because of the economy and unemployment - they're getting an overwhelming number of applicants - so they can afford to take only the creme de la creme.
If you did go Navy and nuke, I wouldn't worry about school and Kyle - I'd keep it very platonic and distant - you'd both need to focus on getting through school, so the less distraction in that department, the better.
No matter what, your plan to get in better shape and look to the future is good and smart. It will be interesting (if you care to share) to hear how things resolve with Kyle in October. Maybe that will help you better decide what road to take too.
On the downside, I was going to go horseback riding this morning, but it is pouring rain :-/p>
On the positive side, I'm going out to eat with my older son this afternoon to celebrate a recent promotion. :->
Jess: How was Navy Pier? See lots of Sailors? I hope it was a beautiful night. My sister said it was a gorgeous day yesterday, and she was headed out to a Star Party (to look at stars) somewhere NW of Chicago.
Hope y'all have a great Sunday!
Jess, have fun at Navy Pier - what is the special occasion, or do they have fireworks every weekend?
Stephanie, get your butt in gear and get in shape. I promise to write to you every day of your boot camp if you go (and if you provide your address).
Lovemynavyson, thanks for your kind support. Let me know when you get the DVD and what you think of it so we can compare notes.
Paula - So glad you got to talk to your son last night! Wow - that is great he is doing so well...it does make a difference if it is something you want to do! I sure hope he does get to come home and you get to see him before he goes...Well, mom - who knows maybe Hawaii or Japan will be on your next big trip on your list of 'things to do'....:) What an experience Japan might be?
Took awhile for yours to arrive! We got ours about a week and a half ago. Yea, I was disappointed about that fact too, but it was very nice. I'm hoping the DVD is just the entire PIR for 7/1. I can't imagine that it wouldn't be???? Seems like it would be rather silly to order one that is entirely different then theirs? Guess we will have to wait and see. Actually shouldn't they be coming in by now? 8 weeks was what I though my son said. I guess its only been 7-8 weeks, so maybe not yet...next week or so?
Steph - I've heard allot of people express the AF too. My husband's cousin is in the AF and she seems to really really like it. She is about 40ish and has been in awhile...
I got to talk with my Sailor/son last night! He sounds good and is doing very well in A School. I was worried he would hate school (always has) but he said it is easy and he's got an average of 92. Woohoo! He graduates smack in the middle of my cruise. I hope he will come visit between school and where ever he is stationed. He thinks he'll be going to Hawaii but he put Japan at the top of his wish list.
Also, the Keel arrived yesterday. It is mostly stock photos of boot camp except for the last 10 or so pages that are actually just his Division - they customize for each Division. It is pretty neat but I wish all the photos were of our Sailors and not just the ones at the back. I wonder if they do the same with the DVD.
Steph, if I were young and had nothing to tie me down, I would join the military, but I think I'd do Air Force (boot camp is easier and I hear they get the best housing/equipment in general).
Have a GREAT time...
We get that price because she rents to family and friends!!! I'm sure if it was any other place it would be extremely pricey...and for $350 any place else...one would have to WONDER!?!?!? My other friend said it is absolutely beautiful there and the condo is really nice too!
Steph - Yea, why not? You have a great head on your shoulders. Strong young lady-
