Thanks.  That's a great visual.

She had drawn a timeline of the average person's life from birth to death (we were probably around 13 so we weren't to far down the timeline). She marked things like Elementary School, Middle School, High School, College, Career, Marriage just general milestones like that. We saw where our lives were near the very beginning, and she explained to us about the choices we could make regarding drugs, alcohol, and relationships (very light on the topic of sex since we were young but she did mention it a little so that we understood). I don't remember all of what she did but I remember being able to see how choices made  in each stage affected the next stage. It was a great visual since adding machine tape is so very long and even High School was at the beginning of it.

I'm surprised..pregnancy city where I come from....I can think of just eight in a small circle of aquaintances in the past couple years! Almost all teens 18 and under with two exceptions.I'm from a little rural area

--- I'd actually like to hear more about the adding machine tape demonstrations!! : )

Wow - that's very cool.

Most of them are friends from when I was younger so most of us were in Girl Scouts together. My mom was the leader and I remember one activity she did with us where she used a roll of adding machine tape to demonstrate how every choice we make will affect the rest of our lives. It was quite impressive considering how long adding machine tape is; we all definitely remember "our lives" rolling out across the floor as we held on to the end of the tape representing our lives at that moment. That one demonstration is probably the reason they are as smart as they are about all of that.

jpgcharity:  Those are definitely smart kids.

Haha I know that some teens wouldn't use birth control in the heat of the moment but all the teens I know don't find pregnancy or even pregnancy scares that big of a turn on so condoms and the pill are definitely common practice where I come from lol. Not saying that there aren't a bunch of teens less responsible or who don't think about how their choices can affect their futures, but there are a lot who do care about their futures enough to asses their current choices regardless of their hormones.

Lovemynavyson - I desperately wanted girls, but I was blessed with 2 boys.  In retrospect, God sure knew what she was doing, because I probably would have totally alienated a daughter by the age of 13 (and I don't think I could handle the screeching or high pitched voice).  Kudos to you for your open mind and  your love of people - it shows.  You're not kidding about raging hormones being one of the strongest forces in the universe.

Paula - hahahha (I forgot the smily face...with the sarcasm comment)! Oh, its a ball at times, but frustrating too! I'm not so sure my kids have always thought that (though my 23 year old is now very appreciative and we've gone our rounds of rebellion). Just got to Love them through it without condoning destructive behavior).

I LOVE the plaque..How true I think it is at times (at least it feels that way) heheheheh

I agree, I wish more parents took it seriously also (I have yet to see how mine will be as parents). I don't know if its that they shouldn't be allowed or just shouldn't!? But, many babies are a result of premature sex at younger and younger ages.. And passing out condoms/birthcontrol hasn't helped but hurt in many ways. I can't honestly see most kids in the passion of the moment saying, "oh wait, I need to put my condom on"  or 'wait, go get your condom on' Sex hormones are the most driving in human nature and are virtually unstoppable in the heat of the passion!!!..sadly enough I have a cousin that was pregnant at 12 and again at maybe 15. I think she's 27 now with a 15 -16 year old- I don't know alll the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy, so I want to be very careful in my judgement of her..

Thanks for the word of encouagement though...as it is a tough haul at times trying to discern when I need to be silent or need to speak up ---It's been disasterous at times, I admit, especially when they are alittle older....I want to 'rescue' them at times from themselves, but they dons't want rescued (and they don't see the pitfalls ahead)---Anyway.....I suppose I've said enough about all this!!!! SORRY MOMS & YOUNG LADIES of Sailors, I love people and don't want to see them so hurt before they even seem to have had a chance at their hopes and dreams, because they are so preoccupied with raging hormons not kept in check -
