Maria:  Actually, they ARE knocking down the doors to get into the Navy these days.  katiesmom is right in what she said below about all needing to be on their best behavior. It is the "NEW" Navy...never in history have they had the number who want to enlist as they do today.  It is because of the economy, for sure...in addition to those who would have enlisted anyway wanting to serve their country, etc. The Officers Program is very very difficult to get into...one friend said his son went into the Navy (college degree) and tried to get into the officers program...couldn't....was allowed to switch to the Marines where he got right into the Officers Program.  My sailor told me recently of some who tried to re-enlist, one after being there 15 yrs, and they were denied.  Obama has ordered a pretty drastic reduction in numbers in the Navy...so that doesn't help.

This is not to say that all who go in do not want to be successful, because I believe they do.  But many who never even considered the military before are now in the Navy, or trying to get in.  And they can quickly be sent home. My son was asmoed during bc for not reporting that a bunkmate had a girl's phone number written down (indicating that he had fraternized with her).  I believe that SR was sent home, and my son was asmoed for a week since he didn't report this (no, he was not a recruit leader).  It opened his eyes that they were not messing around with anything...

Pam, prayers for your daughter.  I'm glad she was forthcoming with her recruiter about this so that "fraudulent enlistment" is not an issue.  Being married to a retired NUKE means that you all know the ropes in a situation like this and what you need to do.  Thank goodness.

Prayers for your daughter and you all.  I agree with Capricorna...please keep in touch on this group so we know what happens.  In the meantime, we will be praying for resolution....

Connie, doesn't katiesmom know that going on the beach can give you SKIN CANCER?  You are safer staying in the room doing "whatever you are doing."  :-)  I have decided that you need to join katiesmom in the MeetNGreet comedy routine....you all are a good team!

Pam T - Like everyone else here - I wish you and your daughter a good resolution to this.  You're in my thoughts and prayers.  It might be difficult to stay on this group while you and your daughter go through this, but I hope you keep us posted.

Ok, I'm going to say this and please if you don't agree but I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with the Navy so I feel I have earned the right to say this! If you can enlist in the Navy and be a homosexual then doggone it you should be able to stay in the Navy if you are ADD! Shoot I can even count high enough to tell you how many that I served with. Does it take a good leader to train, direct, mentor someone with ADD? Yes but that is what the Navy pays their leaders to do. Personally I think this should be a hit against the RDC's vice the recruiter! Maybe they wouldn't be processing so mant recruits out.

Good Morning... Craig... my daughter DID disclose to the recruiter that she had ADD.. and it went ON her records.. she had not hidden anything.. telling from the beginning that she was med free over a year out. The psych asked her in the testing IF she had ADHD and she said NO.. she had ADD and that she told the recruiter this and it was documented.  He wrote down ADHD... she said NO, I said ADD.....and he refused to change it saying he knew she was lying because of this 300 question test proved it......

I so ditto what Craig said about the disclosure of medical info. Omg I feel for her. Unfortunately if she did not tell them about the ADD on her medical form this will be an issue. My older son had ADHD and the recruiter told him to lie on the form because this was easier for him than filling out wavier paperwork. Long story short his dad (ex military )went into the recruiter and ripped him a new....you know what.. For even suggesting this. It took a long time but all worked out in the end. My suggestion is to find out if your daughter chose not to disclose or was "told/suggested" not to. Unfortunatly it will change anything now but you will know if was her or the recruiter. If it was the latter I don't know what can be done at this point. Some recruiter just want to make numbers and do not have the recruits best interest in mind. This is sad.

Pam T - Please understand, I'm a sailor, and I don't beleive in sugarcoating things.

Your daughter needs to protect herself.  She has told the doctor way too much information.  Let the doctor diagnosis her.  Have them decide what she has.  By your daughter offering information that she had ADD she probably has screwed herself if she failed to disclose this information when she joined.  She will probably not be discharged for medical reasons, she will probably be discharged for a Fraudulent Enlistment.  (I'm just guessing she never disclosed this information).

She needs to be extremely careful about her words.  America can accept someone with a medical condition, they can' t accept one that has lied.  So she needs to fight to make dang sure she will be discharged for medical reasons.  How can you tell?  You look at her DD-214 form.  There is a special 3 letter code that tells you everything.  When I hire people, I look at this code and I can tell alot about the person.  I will post some info in the discussion area above that will show you these codes.  It should help you.  It is very important that she finds out what her code will be.  This will be on her record for the rest of her life, now is the time to make dang sure that code is correct.
