Good Evening Moms/Gf's etc of the group. I've been "AWOL" on purpose as I've not known exactly HOW or WHAT to say since Wednesday. I got a call from my daughter Wednesday saying she is now in ship 5 separation. To say I was SHOCKED is an understatement! She told me that 'someone' seemed to think she had ADHD and her (we think) DTO had her sent to a civilian Psychiatrist to be 'tested'. She was given a 300 question test that claimed that not only did she have ADHD but that the Dr. was able to 'tell' that she lied and KNEW she had ADHD! Now, my daughter had been previously diagnosed with ADD and has been med free for about 1 1/2 yrs now! In fact her psychiatrist here in town had said she had such a mild case of it, that her medication was more a 'crutch' then needed. So SHE decided mid year of her senior year (2010) that she wanted to get off the medication and handle things on her own. She TOLD the psych that she had ADD and been med free over a yr.. and he did NOT believe her claiming the test told otherwise! When she called Wednesday, she was beside herself crying and angry. I was so shocked I didn't know what to say! Since then, I've been able to get alot of information from not only a fellow mom in here.. but also by reading on the ship 5 board. Chelsea called again today shortly before her heading to a meeting with JAG as she intends to fight this with everything inside her!! I had her write down to take with her to JAG to remember to sign the waiver for her father and I to be able to talk to JAG and the hepa forms for us to talk to the Dr.s . I also told her NOT to sign ANYTHING until its been properly scrutinized by JAG and possibly her parents, and she understands completely what it is she is signing. I also told her to have JAG help her appeal to her CO. I had asked her how she had been doing with everything prior to all this happening. She said she had failed her very 1st inspection but had not failed any since then. She said classes wise she had been doing pretty well that one class (not sure which) was kind of hard but that she had been atleast passing in it... not by much but still passing!! The thing that makes me as mom so ANGRY is this is the first thing my daughter has ever been so passionate about in succeeding! She had been working for MONTHS before boot camp trying to prepare herself for boot camp. She wanted nothing more then to succeed as a sailor and even go on to have the Navy be a career she retires from! Yet... it seems some 'yahoo' has 'decided' she is ADHD and wants her OUT!! Oh yeah...evidently papers have been sent to her local Psych. to get her records... it will show she had ADD and been med free too!
So, now you know why I've not been commenting the last few days. I've been numb and not sure exactly how to post all this to you. Thanks in advance for the support and prayers for my daughter...
Ok, Connie...gotcha. Yep---I know what he means, I'm in Miami...4th generation Miami native...I don't speak the language...seriously! Over 60 percent of our county is Hispanic and many more than that can speak Spanish. Oh well...I should have listened better in class!
BUT....I DO believe they should be able to speak English too...that is no longer a requirement down here in many cases. Grrrrrrr.....my sailor worked at a hotel where he had to supervise staff that didn't speak English...he fielded complaints all of the time from the FEW English-speaking guests they had who were upset that the valets spoke no English (it was valet-only parking). This was a nice Marriott too. How he lasted a yr there without speaking Spanish is beyond me...
