lucy - Give to clarify, your son is a Starboard watch leader.  Here is what your son does:

Port and Starboard is the same exact name as civilians use for Left and Right. The easy way to remember is Port has 4 letters, so does left. So Port = Left.

In the barracks (ships) they have a left and right side also, so the head dude on the left side is called the Port Watch Section Leaders (PWSL), and the one on the right is called Starboard Watch Section Leader (SWSL). Their duties are as follows:

The Port/Starboard Watch Section Leaders are the senior Recruit Petty Officers for respective watch sections.

The Starboard Watch Section Leader (SWSL) shall serve as the division's watchbill coordinator. Watchbills will be prepared and subsequently submitted to the RDCs via the RPOC.

The Port Watch Section Leader (PWSL) shall coordinate the rotation of the ship watchstanders with the RDCs.

I just posted a questionnaire in the discussions above. You will have to copy and paste this to word and tweak it a little so that it works for you. My sailor was a girl :-) This is one of the questionnaires I made and sent to her. It is a great one to send now that your recruits are over halfway through. Plus you can get answers to questions you need answers to. And they take less time than writing a letter so the recruits love them. Change it around and make it yours and have fun with it. The best part is the encouragement paragraph near the end. It is great for them to have this just before battlestations. I hope you enjoy it :-)

Holiday routine is what they get on Sundays and most Holidays. They get extra down time to shine their boots, study, other tasks, and best of all write letters :-)

JessicaB- Yay for holiday time :-)

Good morning Ladies,
KatiesMom, I am going to include you in the next phone call I get, a three way so you can take notes while Imlisten to her voice, lol. Just to let you all know, standing watch or having duty, as us Land Loving Sailor's have called it, sucks anyway you slice it, but it is a necessary evil! I pray that we all get mail today. Now go and have a fine Navy Day.
Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on June 1, 2011 at 10:47pm
Well the holiday will probably push letter day off a day but the good thing is that they got holiday time on Monday as well so you may get more than one letter. :-) So in that case it is worth the wait!!!
