Southwest is great about ticket changes - you have up to 12 mos to re-use the tickets - no change fee.  And, there is no fee to check bags either.  I made a reservation for car rental at www.carrentals.com - I've used them before - no need for a credit card hold and you get to chose from all the big name rental companies.  I use off-airport parking (at local hotels - they shuttle you to/from) for reduced parking rates - google your city and airport parking to find something in your area.

Wish we could afford plane tickets.. 15 hrs one way is a LONG way ha!  We plan on driving it over 2 days.. 1st day doing like 10 hrs, then 5 the next so we can have the rest of the day to rest up/go to the meet n greet/ and to bed early since we plan on ringing our bells at 0430 hours (woop I remembered the 24 hr thing!) Trying to decide if it would be better to rent a car or drive our own though....ugh!

Well, in all of the excitement I too purchased my tickets, after listening to all of the possibilities and thought, well he will leave Saturday at some point, so I made our reservations to go home at 12noon. When he called on Monday he said he thinks that he will be there until Sunday. What a  bummer. Will cost $150 each to change tickets. I think we will wait until plans are more final. Our daughter is having twins on the 3Oth of June, so want to get back for that big event too!

I hate to fly and will only do so when I visit family in Oregon so we are driving and going to enjoy our time together. With both kids out of the house you would think we would be empty nester's but not yet. My brother in law lives with us, so we still have limited privacy. Mini vaca...

I received an email from one of my SR's recruiters letting me know they had received a letter from her. She said they laughed so much they had tears streaming down their face. 1st question she asked "Why didn't you tell me itnwas going to be like this"? She said she liked the pool best so far because of the Special Warfare guys were there at the same time. So things will never change lol.

Dianne, well put!  I love you guys.  It is awesome to come on here and to chit chat with people who are going through this and totally understand what I am talking about! <3

Angie!!!  That is the Div that my "Princess" is in, lol.  I use that word loosely.

Also, Pam...God bless your son and may his remission be forever!

Pam....sigh....sniff....I think we all just want to go right up there and give her the biggest hug!  It is just amazing how the "hard times" at bootcamp, where they are sometimes crying, frustrated, angry, defeated, exhausted....all things that pull on our mommy heartstrings when we hear about it....those very things are the things that bring them to the point where they really appreciate what they had/have with those whom they love...recognizing sacrifices made for them.  I think it was always "in there" for all of them...but just buried for many under the egotistical "stuff" that we all go through when crossing from "child" to "adult child."  Those wonderful RDCs have a way of just "peeling back the layers" to expose things like that! My son told me some of this (less words....well, because he's a GUY!)...on the phone when he was there...I had to check the caller ID to make sure it was really him!  He has said it again several times since he has been out, during A School and even as a stationed sailor.  I'm thinking that all of our civilian friends may want to send their children to Navy bootcamp....just so they too can "hear those words."   :-)

Wow....I'm sure her words to you are better than any other "gift" she has ever given.  An amazing young woman!  Congrats on a job well done raising her, mama!
