Does anyone know if there is a shuttle from the Navy Lodge? Can we walk?

Pam T...That is something special!!  It brought tears to my eyes just reading your daughters words.  Hoping my daughter is transformed as well. She too was all about herself!  She is very social and a true airhead...no common sense!  And you say your daughter was flighty...you may find this humorous...in her 1st letter she says that her RDC told her that she has to be the dumbest smart person he has ever met!  lol

To all...it is pretty exciting and feels good to know that they are 1/2 way there...by the next couple weeks they will be home free and all downhill for us all...YAY!!  I can't wait to meet you all but I have now run into a bit of a snag...I hit a deer with my car last night and really have no idea what the outcome is going to be of that...if they don't get it fixed before PIR...I will cry!!

Just some heads up on the shuttle service for the graduation from the hotels.  I called my hotel (residence in waukegan) and they gave me the number for the shuttle service, as it's a separate service, not part of the hotel. I called them and they had NO clue about the doors opening earlier that weekend.  He told me that when I sign into the hotel I can request the shuttle to come earlier than 6am and it would cost 12 dollars to run the shuttle (not per person, 12 total).  I told him that he'll probably be getting some more calls, and that that weekend is suppose to be CRAZY!  Very nice guy.

All I can say is Wow - what a wonderful group of people (both here and in boot camp!)  It's amazing to see this all come together for all of us and our children.  The night my son told me he had joined the Navy, he seemed to think he would get a different reaction from me.  Actually, I was thrilled that he had come to this decision on his own, had researched it, and had already taken steps towards success (i.e., getting in shape, etc.)  It helped him start to grow up even before he set foot in Boot Camp.  I am so looking forward to meeting the man he was destined to be.  The RDC's work hard and do a great job, but our loved ones do too.

I got a 2nd letter from my daughter just now.  And I am officially crying!  It amazes me how in just 4 short weeks, she has changed SO MUCH!!  She told me in the letter, she has been working hard, learning alot about herself.  She said she has also been praying alot, not only for herself and her fellow SR's but for the families at home who misses them.  (Wow!  Normally she is ME ME ME!)  She then went on to say that she knows the trip to see her PIR will be very expensive for us.  And that she also knows mama is probably saving every nickle and dime and probably trying to do side jobs to help pay for the trip. (Gee, she knows me TOO WELL!) She went on to say (this is where I started to cry) that she knows its been very hard on us financially all along this past year with her brother (side note: her 15 yr old brother was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma Aug 29, 2010 and is currently in remission but we still have to take monthly trips to Dallas for oncology/testings/ etc until Aug. 2012).  She informed me that her pay is being split between her navy federal account and her local bank account here. She said she knows Dad and I are still on that account (from when she was in college and we were direct depositing money in it for her!) and said she wants us to use the money in her local account to pay for our hotel stays going and coming to the PIR!  At first, I thought NO WAY that is HER money!  Then she went on to say  " Mom, I know you are thinking NO WAY... but I WANT to do this!  I love you both and want you to know how much I appreciate you!" WOW!!  Who is this kid and what has she done with MY kid?!?!?  My heart swells knowing how much she is growing up and maturing! Anyway just wanted to share this with yall!  Have a good week and hope you all get a letter soon!

2sailors.. God bless you!!  For the rest of us... our kids are 1/2 way there!!!! It is still hard for my brain to wrap around that MY DAUGHTER... this flighty young lady who likes to talk alot, watch tv and read.....is almost a full fledge SAILOR!  I can't wait to see her in uniform. I kept finding myself yesterday getting weepy, thinking about her.  Glad a few cards are going out to her today!

I'm heading to the Meps with my husband & future daughter in law to see our 2nd son join his brother in the Great Lakes BC. My heart feels broken! I will hold my head proud today!

I just RSVP'd for the meet & greet.  I had to go through a couple of pages of the "Events" listings, but I found it.  (I use Mozilla as a browser.)  There are only 3 or 4 who have RSVP's  -  I sure hope more than that will attend!

It was interesting to read the letter my SR sent to his Dad.  He talked more about the difficult parts of Boot Camp.  In his letter to me, he glossed it over.

I just love that countdown clock!
