Hi everyone!  We got a letter yesterday - my son says that he apparently didn't know everything before he went to BC - because they are teaching everything to him now! LOL  He said that he's still loving it -  then we got a 10 min phone call!!!!  He split his 20 min time with his dad - it was so great to hear his voice.  Sounds like things are good for div 212!  He did say "you have no idea how hard this is" but he sounded satisfied and proud of himself.

@ Craig, I just asked my sister who went through 11 years ago, so don't what/if stuff may have changed. Shaving supplies is a yes. Elastic to put the hair in bands, no. I have seen pictures with a young lady in corn rows, so maybe she could get her hair braided before she left. She doesn't see why the IUD would be an issue, it's the same thing and a lot more convenient. Hope that helps.

Sounds like 213/214 also getting some good "lessons" :-)  I just told my daughter to hang in there and that the RDC's trying to get them to work as a team and , since their lives may be in these people's hands (literally) one day.  They'll get the hang of it!

roypam: My son actually got asmoed (setback) when at bc for NOT being "a snitch."  Yep, protocal is for them to report anything that threatens the security of the "team" --and that includes defiance and non-compliance.  My son was aware that another SR had fraternized with a girl there because he showed my son where she wrote down her phone number for him.  The SR was caught (not sure how), and my son was asmoed for NOT being the one who turned him in since he knew about it.  So....they don't mess around up there.  There are lessons to be learned...hopefully since you got this info in a letter, they are "back on track" now and all is better!

2sailors... my daughter is in 09/213 also... we got a letter last week saying they 'got in trouble' because a couple of the ladies did something wrong and then threatened 'the snitch'..... wonder what all that means as to what they can and can't do now..... wishing we would get a phone call. beginning to think we won't!

2sailorsonsmom:  Making them pack their seabags is a highly motivational technique to make the SRs realize that they(RDCs) mean business...the first few weeks of actual training are very difficult...they just have 6 short weeks to make these SRs into sailors...so there is no time to mess around.  I love reading on here the different techniques used to capture the SRs' attention...in your letters, just be sure to remind your SR that the RDCs want to make them into sailors...and will do whatever they have to in order to accomplish that.

2Sailors,

The threats are a tactic that is use to motivate the division to work as a team.  No letter and no stink'n phone call.  Not too surprised about the phone call since she sent her calling card home in the box and asked for it to be returned to her and I know it hasn't gotten to her yet.

Ladies with female recruits:

As some of you guys know, I run a Navy Deppers website that helps deppers prepare for boot camp.  I just got two questions that I've never heard before, nor ever seen posted.  Can you ask your future sailor these two questions?

1.  Do they give you shaving supplies there? and i have extremli curly hair, so when i cut it short it unmanagable and sort of afro-like,  so can i use and elastic band to keep it back or would i be able to purchase gel at the nex?

2.  I know that birth control pills are availible during boot camp, but does anyone know about the alternate forms? More specifically, I have the Mirena IUD, and need to know if it's going to be a problem. I don't think it should be, but I'd prefer not to have it taken out there. I've got an appointment with my gyno next month for a yearly exam, should I get a note from him about it?  Any info would be appreciated!

I got another letter today & a 20 minute phone call!! We were having a going away dinner for my 2nd son that is leaving for Great lakes next Tuesday. We had family & friends over tonite. They were all yelling in the phone to him. He loved hearing them. He wanted to give his brother some advice about BC. He said his Div has been threated to send them back 2 weeks because the SR's are messing up, they made them pack their seabags. I pray that does't happen. He was upset he didn't get any for 2 days. All his friends, family & I write to him everyday. Mail is like Xmas to them.

I have heard that sometimes their flights don't leave until hours and hours after they get there, so we just need to pray for HUGE amounts of holiday weekend full flights
