Not trying to be the Navy Rank Nazi but the pay grade is Seaman Recruit, Seaman Apprentice and Seaman.

...meant to say, "but they earn pay from the day they start...."  sorry!
Comment by diannep on May 25, 2011 at 5:48pm

In bootcamp, they are all paid as E-1s but I have been told that they get the "makeup" pay after bootcamp if they are actually E-2's or E-3's.  I didn't know this when my son went through--he entered as an E-3 because of a college degree....he had a Navy Fed account so I was never aware of his actual pay.  Also, they have uniform/supply charges taken out of their first 2 paychecks so don't be surprised if these are a bit lower.  Their pay usually starts after they have been there for about 3-4 weeks, but they are earn pay from the day the start.  Just takes a while for the banking, etc to be set up.

And, yes, esther...they are all SR's (Sailor Recruits) in bc.

katiesmom:  Haaa!  Too funny!  I think Betsy meant what Navy "job" does your daughter have--the one she will go to school for...

Hey Blu, glad to hear you got some letters, I thought I would have one today but the mailman only brought me JUNK!!!! He got the stink eye from me, he drove away rather fast, lol.

The 900 divisions are the "performing" divisions.  Those with music, singing, or drill experience can disclose that and be put in these divisions.  They enjoy performing and in some cases, actually get to leave the base to perform (sometimes in parades...such as possibly this weekend since it is Memorial Day).  There are also members of that group that do "behind the scenes" activities at PIRs.

E-1, E-2, and E-3 are all ranks, I'm pretty sure.  Depending on if you had college credits and how many you can get rank when you sign your initial contract.  My husband went in as an E-3 since he already had a bachelors degree.  We might go down the officer road one day, but we're happy with enlisted for now.  I also believe they are just all Sailor Recruits in bootcamp?  I didn't think they recognized rank amongst their peers?  Soooo not 100% positive about all that, sorry if I'm way off here.
