Congrats on the letter.  My SR called this am for some info.  He sounded homesick and hasn't gotten any mail yet - we just got the address on Sun nite!  Sent eight letters so far!  Patience is a virtue.  The phone calls are a bit unnerving - He said he's fine - but wants letters!  I will wait by the mailbox today!

Oh, where to stay, where to stay, where to stay? Wanted to do Navy Lodge, but that's a no go, since the website says it's a non-smoking facility. I'm fine with that, but my sil won't be.

Thanks for the count down clock it's awesome! My Sister in law got a post card from my son this morning! She gave the post cards with stamps & addresses on them to my son before he left. I told my mail man I would be stalikng him. He said he is a exmarine & understands. My mail doesn't come until after 4:00. I pray I get a letter today.

Welcome Craig, I wondered where you had been hiding lol.

Connie- I will let you know if we come that way. My Sailor is in VA Beach and I have already been there twice this year. I am hoping to go again in June. And, if you ever head west for the coolness of the mountains be sure and let me know. We live in Brevard and are very close to the Parkway, Sliding Rock, and The Cradle of Forestry. We have over 150 waterfalls in our county alone and of course we are home of the White Squirrel's who even have their own festival memorial Day weekend :-) When my daughter was in boot camp the RDC's didn't believe we really had white squirrels so I had to send a pic lol. This is the pic I sent, it was taken on my front porch. It is a great place to visit and it would be awesome to meet for lunch or something :-)

@Craig - welcome!  My dtr is Ship 09 Div 214 (is 09 the JFK?  that's cool!)  I have a separate group (not sub-discussion of this group) for 09/214, you're welcome to join!

Booked my rooms (one for my folks and one for my son and I).  We usually stay at Hilton brands thru work, so I have a ton of points and got the Hilton Garden Inn for $79/nite PIR Special....  they're usually reallly nice and the beds are way comfy!! They only had king beds tho.... maybe me and mom will bunk together and Dad and my boy can bunk together! haha.... me and my ma both snore anyway!!  =)

My mom got a letter today from my SR.... she wrote a letter the first week and was apparently miserable, but in a later portion of the letter was doing really well.  I hope I have a letter when I get home - I sure will be leaving work early today!  Going to have to make Wednesdays my flex day and come in / leave early!!  My SR hasn't received any of my letters yet :( but I was out of town, so was sending them from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas.  She did get the letter my mom sent on the 10th from Michigan.  Hopefully the she's got some of my letters by now!!  I sent them from the hotels every morning, but who knows what they did with them at the front desk!?!

@moliana, i'm glad you finally got your ship/div!

It's good to be home, I'll be glad to get back into my routine.  I wrote my daughter a letter on the computer and included some photos from the trip of the scenery and my goofy co-workers (who she knows!).  Hope she likes it - I mailed it at lunch....  it's sooo much quicker to write on the puter!  I still like hand-writing the letters tho.

Talk to you all soon - glad to be able to catch up!  I had to read like, 20 pages! :)

Hey LaLa let me know if you ever come East for the beach, we could meet and have coffee, I am in Jacksonville, hope of Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune.

LaLa, good to know, we are splitting the days up and making a mini vacation. My husband just told me that he is going to have to go to Mo the week after we get back, no wonder he never wants to travel lol.
For all of you who were crying because Diannep and I were talking chocolate yesterday, this morning I stepped on the scale and lost another lb! See it can be done, in moderation and have cherry licorice for dinner lol <3

Hey all - I joined this group because I have a future sailor on the JFK, div 214 who I was helping.   Thought I'd join in on the fun....  (Yes, I'm one of the few guys on N4M's).

Lala, JessicaB, diannep - Good to see you guys over here.  I will be sailing this ship with you guys....

We drove from Western NC last July, Map Quest said it was a 12 hour drive. With stops and road construction it too almost 16 hours to get there and because of flooding in Chicago for the drive home it took 18 hours to get home. I would definitely split the drive into 2 days going and 2 days coming back if at all possible. And no matter where you are coming from watch your speed in Indiana, they have crazy speeding fines and you can tell they mean business because every single car slows down to the speed limit. :-)
