for
~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

LiveFreeOrDie: If your SR can pay for the piks when they are ordered, either from pay or with a credit card, he will have the piks in his ship and will bring them to you after PIR. Otherwise, they have to wait and pay for them after PIR. The SR must pay for them during Bootcamp, you cannot pay for them from your end. After PIR, you can pay for them if your SR is with you. If it turns out you must pay for them after PIR, here's a hint. Leave RTC with your sailor after PIR, have lunch, etc....and return to RTC in the early afternoon. There is usually no line at the Photo Lab then.
tbird: Bring the boxers that your SR enjoys....but they need white ones under their white uniforms. Stain stick is to keep their uniforms clean. Deoderant/cologne is only necessary if he likes a certain kind since they have that at Bootcamp in the NEX. Wouldn't hurt for him to have some white tshirts if that is what he will wear under his uniforms. You can take his laptop as well. They have to receive these either at the airport when flying out during your visit with them....or....after Liberty when they have moved over to GL A School. None of this is allowed on RTC.
You can always mail other items to him. It is best for him to wait until he gets to A School to see his storage space and what he may need. My son's A School was only about 3 mos long, so he didn't want alot of things. Figured he would just get them when he came home on Leave after A School before Duty Station arrival.
Good Morning!
You're welcome, Julyasmom!
Thanks CatMom509! That is what my husband thought but we just wanted to make sure. Also really appreciate the heads up on the other NEX.
Julyasmom,
Your SR's boyfriend will be able to go into the NEX with you, but retired or active military would have to make the purchase on any selections he makes. So he can just pay your hubby or your daughter back afterward if she is with him at any NEX. Here's more info for you on the NEX~
There is a larger NEX (Navy Exchange Store) off base, not far away. The one at RTC is the size of a 7-11 or gas station convenience store and really crowded after PIR. So if you don't have any business needing photos or ordering the Keel or PIR dvd at the Photo Lab by the RTC NEX, head over to this one:
