WELCOME TO PIR 09/21/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

FTLW - I think I already know the answer but....... I have spotted my SR in pictures on Facebook from today's PIR taken by wonderful individuals! I so want to tag him in these pictures for all of my family and his friends to see him. However, it is not a good idea right? Because of OSPEC? Would it be ok if I tagged them as me? Or should I just leave well enough alone and download them and enjoy myself?

Thanks :-)

Lala - I am taking my auto insurance coverage which covers rentals and the rental paper work should be enough along with military ID.  We haven't been on a Naval Base for years (maybe 35 yrs) so didn't have current info.  Thanks for your help.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on September 7, 2012 at 7:29pm

for rental cars I don't think they even ask for insurance proof, we had our own car and they didn't ask. You just have to be prepared in case they ask for it.

Thanks diannep. That is good info.

The worst that can happen to a car driving in for PIR....say, you don't have proof of insurance...is that you will have to park over at the train station (very close) and walk into the gate.  Many do this anyway.

Dee:  Drivers license is fine.  Yes, have the rental papers with you when you arrive at RTC.

I am a fan of the PIR shuttle service.  Worked out great for us, we were on the 6:30 one and it was perfect.  Went back on the 11:30 one...but others drive and enjoy that too.

ellen - Yes it is PIR 9/21.  The passenger in our vehicle has a driver's license but no military ID. Will that be sufficient? Also, we will have a rental car.  Will we have to get out and show papers for the rental prior to driving on base?  I know the hotel we're staying at has transportation to the PIR.  Would that be a better way to go? We do want to take our daughter off base.  She will only get a few hours with us prior to departing from GL.

Hey, so did anyone get letters this week? Was kinda hoping I'd find one in my mailbox today, but no such luck :/

Comment by ellen0502 on September 7, 2012 at 2:33pm

Dee are you taking about PIR? The gate pass is for those driving a vehicle to RTC for PIR. If your friend is on the list for PIR he just needs to have a government issued picture ID.

Comment by Dee on September 7, 2012 at 12:52pm

My husband and I both have ID cards to get on the base.  But we will have one person coming to the graduation with us that is civilian.  He was put on the list. Do all of use need the passes to get on base?
