WELCOME TO PIR 09/21/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Jenideer, I am sure you have looked at format over and over again, but here it is again. I am so sorry your son seems to not be getting your mail.

The proper format for recruit mailing addresses is:

SR LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, MI
SHIP XXX DIV XXX
RECRUIT TRAINING COMMAND
XXXX something avenue or drive
GREAT LAKES IL 60088-XXXX

(I think ship 11 is 3505 Sailor Drive maybe?) The Recruit Training Command line maybe optional now, but I used it on every letter I sent.

Comment by Jenideer (Ship 11/ Div 302) on August 21, 2012 at 12:08am

Yes I have written it just as the recuiter showed me too and the address my SR sent me is the same the recuiter gave me and the same on the return address from my son. I wanted him to add my sister to the guest list instead of his sister and brother who cant come. So now I am worried he wont know to do that. I can hardly believe he has not gotton my 3 envelopes I just sent # 4 today. Its so upsetting! My daughter did read me his letter and sounds like beside being the yeoman his is a division leader and says he is working hard. I am so glad you guys are around to ask questions. Hey whats the best car rental place there? we are flying into Ohare. thanks

Jenideer sometimes the first few letters you send get there after they send the first one. I would suggest you double check how you have written the address too, it can delay them receiving it if it is not correct  (I am sure you probably have checked it twice already)

Heya guys, I found out today my son has not gotten any of my letters and I sent the first one on July 31st. He wrote my daughter and asked why is wasnt writing, I have sent an envelope every week with 4 to 6 letters I have written during that week to him. What do I do I am just heart sick he thinks I have not written, he aske my daughter to tell me to write him. I know I have the right address its the same he listed on his return address to my daughter and I did get his first letter too. I missed his call so I am doubly bummed out now!!! Jenideer

leoyak, they are always told at boot camp that they can't have their cells or laptops. I would take it anyway just in case. Once he is on the A-school base they will go over the rule and he will then know if he can have it or not. You should be able to spend a few hours with him on Friday after he moves to the A-school base (takes about 4 hours after PIR) and then unless he has an hour or two of watch over the weekend you should also be able to see him all day on Saturday and again all day on Sunday.

One call and two letters in one day!  I'm a happy momma!  My SR called at 0538 (his time) and he sounded really good.  He says the food is good and he passed all his tests and the training isn't really that hard.  Luckily his recruiter got him in shape pre-BC.  He had four wisdom teeth removed.  One got very infected and he was on bed rest for a few days.  He almost got sent home.  I guess it's good I didn't know that at the time.  He starts week 3 tomorrow.  He's attending A School in Great Lakes but I can't bring his laptop or cell phone because he can't have them until two days after so we'll have to ship them.  Hmmmm.  Maybe I can leave them with someone local.  I'll have to look into that.  He thought we had 20 minutes to talk but it turned out to be more like 10.  Luckily, I knew that was going to happen because of N4M.  Anyway, what a relief not to jump everytime the phone rings.  So, I guess the next test for us is the "I'm a Sailor" call.  I'm praying you all get your calls soon!

HELLO!!!  I GOT A CALL FROM MY SR TONIGHT!!! The call came in around 6:40  He sounded GREAT!! He said he is doing good. Funny we were talking about watches today, because out of the blue he said he went and bought himself a watch today. He was so excited he got it. I said I would have got one for him if I knew he needed one. He said he got one because he is in charge of the chapel for his group.  Now I have to admit, we are not church going people at all, we have never been to a mass as a family EVER! So I was surprised and happy he found this responsibility. Does anyone know what he is doing? I'm thinking it's some kind of job while he's in GL.  He's passed all his tests except the PT, but said he's one minute away from it. He has to shave off 60 seconds and he will breeze on through.  Our conversations was shorter than I would have liked but I followed his lead. I told him how happy and proud of him I am!!!  I am thrilled and so relieved....
