OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning N4M Family!!!! Yesterday was a looooong day for me so this post is late coming. We got our first letter last night. One for mom & dad; one for little bro.

He got to attend chapel last Sunday (YAY!!! I wasn't certain that he would go to chapel.) He is curious to see how long it takes the mail to travel. LOL! Some of his shipmates razzed him for his emotions on the phone last week, but it was all in good humor (I got my first call from him 8/7). He asks for pics of everyone, which I've sent, but he admits that he hasn't received any mail from us yet. (I'm sure he probably got his first batch of mail the day after he sent this letter.)

He says the guys are really coming together. He is getting stronger. He feels himself changing. He says, "Everything just gets better mommy." :)

Ok, question. What is SEMPER FORTIS? He signed his letter with it.

Y'all have an awesome Friday!!!! Hope you get calls tonight!!!!

Hey Leoyak, my son is in 306 also, got the same letter. Not a complainer, it is what it is... said he will never ask me to do his laundry again, seems he has it down to a science!! This is my second Navy boy. His brother says he is doing just fine. And so will Mom.

Those first letters are so hard. They are tired, unsure of what they have gotten themselves into and they are just so unsure of how they will get through it all. My first letter from my daughter said she cried herself to sleep the first night. I can tell you I was a basket case when I read that. But each letter and each week got better than the last. By the end she said it wasn't bad and she actually kind of liked it. Now two years later she is a happy Sailor about to become a 3rd class Petty Officer and trying to do a rate change to Corpsman which may mean adding signing up for 4 more years. That is a long way from "I cried myself to sleep". I could not be any more proud of her for all her accomplishments. Hang in there everyone, it will get better soon :-)

Is there anyone on from Ship 4, Div 304?  I'm trying to make a connection with someone who's going to be a the 9/21 PIR for that Div so I can pass along a gift from a mom who can't make it.....

Comment by Leoyak (Ship3/Div330) on August 16, 2012 at 9:47pm

So, I got my letter today too.  What a relief!  He says he gets up at 0500 every day, shaves, brushes hiis teeth and then it's non-stop training for 17 hours!  They're not allowed to talk to anyone except their instructors.  Doesn't get much sleep and it pretty much sucks.  He already has to get his uniform re-fitted because he's losing so much weight.  He really misses Taco Bell :)  He looks forward to going to class (amazing). They sleep in their sweats because it's cold and the blankets are thin.  Most of this complaining was done with humor so I know he's OK.  He says it's going good so far.  Hang in there Moms.  They'll be fine.

Thanks cinder, it just broke my heart that he seems so unhappy, seems like a lot of the mom got upbeat letters, I just wish my boyfriend was a little happier there. He said "I wish I could tell you its ok, but it sucks." I know he misses me and his family, but I dont want him to be sad. I hope he's not struggling with the tests and exercises and stuff, you know :/

It will get better and he did say he can't wait to surprise which means he is sticking it out. Performance divisions have a lot on their plate.
