WELCOME TO PIR 09/21/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

For those wondering if you can bring extras to PIR that are not on the list of names. Yes, you can!!

Anyone who is not on the list will have to wait until those that are on the list have entered the drill hall. It appears that there are only 9 divisions in this TG, so the extras may not even have to wait very long before they are allowed in.

Those not on the list given by your SR, will be added to the list when they are allowed to enter the drill hall.

Make sure that everyone has their ID with them, those on the list and those that aren't.

I also see in the division discussions that some of you are receiving actual letters, that is excellent news.

That's an awesome idea, I'm from Texas too.  :)

Hey y'all from Texas! :) I am seeing a lot of posts today about stamps and phone cards on another group and I would like to share something with you that I did/am doing regarding both.

First of all http://callsforrcruits.org/ (clickable link here) is totally legit. My SR shipped out July 24, 2012. On July 23rd I emailed Calls for Recruits and they sent me 9 calling card PIN numbers via email within an hour or two. I had my SR write the numbers down in his address book, which he is allowed to have at BC. My SR has already used one of them. :) Once I got his address, I mailed those same numbers to him just in case he lost his address book in the shuffle (from MEPs to airport to plane to BC - you get my drift).

Have your SR keep two PIN numbers, then give the rest to SRs who have none. Yes, you can get replacements. I got 9 new cards emailed to me just yesterday. I will be printing the new PIN numbers out and sending them to my SR in the mail. He will have two new cards to use himself, and 7 more to give to those in need of one. Each PIN number is only good for one use, and if used to its full extent, is a 20 minute calling card.

As for stamps: With every letter I mail to my SR (at least one a day), I include a return addressed and stamped envelope. There is no way he will ever use them all. They just do not have the time to write that much. I have told him that if there are any letters he wants to keep and not throw away (space is EXTREMELY limited) to send them back home in that extra envelope. Each stamped envelope can get at least 3 pages home for safe keeping (plus a 1 page letter from your SR). And if there are still even more envelopes left over, he is to give it to another SR who doesn't have one (my address is printed on a label which can be pulled off the envelope and another address written in).

I print photos from home onto the paper that I write my letter on so that there are no small pieces for him to keep up with and he still gets photos with each letter.

We threw him a party before he left where I had all the guests write words of encouragement to him. He read them all before he left, but I will also be mailing one or two of them weekly so that 1. mom isn't the only one he's hearing from, and 2. he can see how much support he has from others back home that may not be taking the time to write him now.

Hope this helps.

When do they find out for sure what A school they are going too.  When my boyfriend left his recruiter told him most likely A school would be in Great Lakes but when will he know for sure.

I know my son is planning on going to MA school in San Antonio after PIR - but not sure when that is.

Comment by diannep on August 10, 2012 at 2:34pm

MBMOM:  No, no one can stay overnight at the hotels during PIR weekend.  Those staying in GL will get daytime liberty, but no overnights.  Those flying out will have PIR Day daytime liberty, and may be at airports early the next morning.  If not on Sat., then they will have Saturday daytime liberty with you and be at the airport most likely on Sunday morning.
