N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello Navy Moms, still no Form Letter here. Sheesh, I am going nuts. I have a few letters written and also a few pics to send to him when I finally get the address. I am totally willing to write to other SR's that are not receiving mail. This may seem like a weird question, but what do you say on the 1st letter? :/

CatMom509- Thanks so much for letting us know that. I was curious as to when we may be hearing from them. Can they only make calls on the weekend?

Comment by CatMom509 on August 8, 2013 at 1:25pm

Ladies,

When your SRs finally get to call very soon (like maybe this weekend), the area code will most likely show "847", but it could be any other area code so pick up all calls and if it is a solicitor, just tell them politely, "no, thank you."  Keep your cell phones near you and fully charged at all times,Take it to the bathroom, outside with you, upstairs, in the basement.  If your SR calls the home phone, have calls forwarded to your cell when you are out and about!!  If you are going to some place somewhat loud, put your phone on vibrate and then in your pocket or bra to be sure not to miss the call~~

I just made our reservations :) I'm so excited!!

NavyMom:  They return to their ships after PIR for a bit....we waited about 45 minutes for my son to come back, but he could have been "talking" to shipmates during some of that time!  :-)  I would say....they are usually able to leave by 11:30 or so.  Those moving over to GL A School will do this shortly after PIR is over, so they would have to see off-base family after the move.

diannep....Thanks! I just told my parents I will teach them how to do it. We'll do trial runs these next few Fridays.

Also wanted to know, how soon after the ceremony will those waiting off base get to see him?

Comment by diannep on August 8, 2013 at 7:58am

Good Morning All !

NavyMomGreer:  Be sure to have those waiting off base for your sailor --- watching the LIVESTREAM of the PIR service on their computers.  Won't be the same as being there to see it live, but the next best thing!

NavyMom (and to the Whole Group) - The reason I did not use your whole username is because I am not sure if that is your last name within it. Is it?

If so, (and this is just a gentle reminder ) and it is the same as your SR's then you will need to change your username.

Last names of Recruits/Sailors are not permitted on the N4M website as per the Community Guidelines.

If it is different then not an issue but I would suggest a caution for your own personal security. :-)
