N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

No, I haven't ever put his ship name. Heck, I didn't even know it until I received his letter today. His recruiter is the one that initially gave me his address one week after he left and he didn't mention his ship name so it's seemingly unimportant with regards to getting mail.

Yea I always put the ship # and Div # but I never put the name and he wrote to me on Saturday telling me that everyone got mail but not him :( I feel AWFUL, I really hope he has gotten my letters by Monday and he is feeling better.
Tanners Mom, did you put the ship name as well as the # and Div #?

xrosaelenax,

Look at the way your SR has his name and address on his return address--that's the way you should be addressing your letters to him.  You can add the ship's name (Ship 03, USS Hopper, Division ___) as an extra, but the ship # and division #  is most important.  Since I gave my Sailor daughter a USS Hopper Challenge Coin for her PIR gift, I liked to see the connection between the ship number and name--just make sure they are correct. (Check above). He could've received all his mail by now as he wrote that letter you just received on Sunday, August 18th.

Xrosaelenax... Yes, always put your SRs div and ship. My son said in his letter that he's received our letters. I'm hoping yours finds its way to him!! So glad you heard from him!! Got my letter today as well... Very happy about that!

My son told me his two good buddies are Peyton and Mark ( from div 364 ) these are first names I told him we can't use last names. He past his tests got 4.8 out of 5.

I got letters!!!! I am soooo happy! I have a question for veteran moms and moms that know their SRs have received their letters! When you address it to them do you put this ship name along with the div and ship number? I've been addressing all the letters without the ship name and in my SRs letters he said he hasn't gotten ANY mail! I feel awful because he feels so bad! I sent him like 20 letters already!

I'm glad to know I am not the only one stalking the mailman. Haha. My mail runs late but hoping my letter comes today!!
