OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Any other Ship 9 Moms out there?

Comment by bwaybabyphx on August 16, 2013 at 6:14pm

My son is Ship 9 Div 370...we've heard nothing either, except for the "form letter".  I didn't realize others were receiving things...

Yea it gets pretty frustrating waiting to hear something and seeing that others are getting calls and letters but I am not giving up hope just yet. Hopefully next week we will hear something from our SRs on Ship 11! I just don't understand why they are not being allowed to write....

nothing here:((  ship 11/div 366, We do send letters everyday and I hope they are helping, but we are desperate (as is everyone else) to here something from him.  Praying for a call tomorrow.  I just don't understand why some people have received several letters, phone calls and we haven't gotten anything. i am happy for them, I am just feeling sad.

I feel so bad for all the moms that have not heard from their SR's yet. I was a bit frantic as well. I have calmed down quite a bit since he called last week. I was so relieved that he was taking everything in stride and was in good spirits. As I mentioned before they are only allowed to mail their letters home on Sundays. So mail call for will unfortunetly be only once a week, but they do recieve our letters everyday. I write everyday, I was running out of things to say so I sent him a letter from the dog. It was very funny...sure to put a smile on his face and tht is what keeps me going, knowing I am doing my part to get him through boot camp.

I used to be in the navy myself and I remember that mail call was the one most uplifting event in boot camp. It makes a huge difference I believe in their success.
