N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

navymom17: I sent the cards from calls for recruits with my son also - has your son used them yet?  I always worry about the calling cards not working too well for them.  Love your profile pic by the way - It made me laugh on a truly crazy morning at work already!  Lol

neicey800 I sent him with phone cards from calls for recruits.com They will email you the cards you just print and send. They give you 8 and ask that your SR give 2 away and to let you know if anySR is in need of calling cards and you can ask for more and have him give to those who need. It is free and each card has 20 minutes on it once used it is done. Hope this helps oh and they get back to u fast callsforrecruits.com

I remember back in the day when you wanted to call a cell phone from a payphone it was like 80 cents a minute so if they are using that calling card to call does it use all their minutes up in a few minutes? What calling cards are you finding I can only find some at Walgreens they're a Walgreens brand
Comment by diannep on August 15, 2013 at 8:27am

LoriJa:  They can purchase the calling cards there at the NEX, but of course it saves them money if you all send them one.  Be sure to get one that has at least 250 minutes or more on it.  The connection through the pay phones eats up alot of their minutes!  Some of the SRs are great about lending those without cards their own until they purchase one for themselves.

Hoping for calls/letters for all in this PIR group soon!  Also hoping that RTC will post the divisions soon for this group...seems to be taking a while....

Good Morning All !

I'm thinking this weekend for the phone call-Ship 11 div 366. she'll call her husband first, then her dad and me, hopefully!

Hi everyone, long day at work. No calls from my SR yet, no letters.  She's on ship 11, div 365.  I'm thinking maybe in the next week or so?  I hope!!  I'm keeping my cell phone with me 24/7.  I work this weekend, I just hope she doesn't call me when I'm in the middle of seeing a patient!!  I hope she got my letter with the calling card in it. How do they make phone calls without a calling card?  I managed to get through the last two days now without turning to mush while talking about my daughter.  I'm sure that will all fly out the window once I get the call.

Hey there pmass5958 - That's kind of what a lot of us are thinking whose sons arrived on July 29th and after.

Your son called on the third Saturday (or weekend) after he arrived.  For those of us with SRs who arrived on Monday the 29th, this coming weekend will be the third Saturday/weekend since our SR s arrived.  I'm sure we'll start receiving calls and mail soon.

Thanks!

maureenwithfive- when i learned of this site i scoured all over to see if i could find out when box and phone calls would come.  what i found out is that every division is different.  my son left on 7/24/13 his box came on 7/29.  his form letter didn't come until 8/6.  he called home on 8/9 for two minutes but only to get a phone number for his security clearance.  then he phoned on 8/10 and was able to talk for 20 minutes.  he said that he had already received my letters and sent us one back but still haven't received it yet. my son is in ship 13 div 363 and his pir date is 9/27/13.  be patient.  and keep your phone on you at all times.  it was so awesome to talk to him.  big relief to know he is doing okay.
