Hey there ladies......my daughter was in ship 2 div 945 but was hospitalized for a week and is now back at bc but was delayed a week so now she is in ship 2 div 946. I figured I better start to get to know some of the moms in this group now.

Calls are not guaranteed, even though they may be told that.  I know when my son made the I'm Here call....way back when....he said I'll call in 3 weeks.  He actually was able to call 3 days later because it was Thanksgiving....soooo....just have the phones ready at any time.

blakesmom:  If he had an appt, watch, or any other responsibility when the division called, he would miss the calls.  That happens alot.  Sometimes they can make them later, sometimes not.  Depends on the RDCs and their schedules.  Hang in there....Here's the good news....the lower-numbered divisions should have just started Training Week #4.  The others will be starting early next week.  That is Hell Week, but it isn't as bad as it sounds.  They are up earlier, have lots of inspections, and it is very busy!

But it is also the turnaround week for them where they get much more positive.

So...hoping some calls come in soon for those who haven't talked to their SRs.  My son was in two different divisions when there....the first one, a good number of calls were made.  The second one....not so much.  I think I only talked to him once in the 4 weeks he was in that one.  So it just depends!

This is good practice for when they are deployed, by the way, and they may be out of contact for a good while.  Not fun, but part of the military!

Hoping for calls/mail for all soon!

It's rough that some get to call home, when others don't.  I don't think my SR's would be attributed to dental work though, as he has already had his wisdom teeth removed. I hope that we can all talk to our children soon.  I miss him like crazy!

My son didnt get the call either. He said people were talking to that cut the call down to 15 minutes. Then he had to buy a phone card. Once he had it all the phones were all in use. He said in his letter he started to cry then remembered that he had gotten to make two calls to me while working on his security clearance and all the mail he is getting and felt better. I had forgotten to send the phone card with him and when I'd mentioned it during those first two calls I had the impression that he already had one...thought it had been on his list of supplies to buy on arrival or something. I had finally sent one anyways last week so now he has two.

We also didn't receive a call from our son due to wisdom teeth being pulled. He did say in his letter however he would still get to call us, but here it is a week later & no call...ugh But I know God has a hand in this, he mentioned he talked to another recruit while in SIQ & was told after the 4th week things get so much easier & that really seemed to up his spirits!!! He sounded so much better in this letter, but darn, a whole month is a long time to not talk to your own child!!! Will they have abandonment issues later in life??? Lol

@ Blakes mom- I didn't get a call  last week when everyone else was mentioning on here that they did. In the letter I got from my son this week, he said he missed getting to call because of his wisdom teeth. Now, his situation was kind of complicated because his teeth were so high up (in his sinus cavities on top, and under a piece of jaw bone on the bottom) that they sedated him to take him out. He did not mention getting to make that call up, but he did at least  write me a decent length letter, haha.

Is there any protocol on when SR's get to make phone calls?  I read somewhere that one of the "guaranteed" calls was third week, but when his division was allowed calls earlier this week, he was not allowed to call.  I thought it was just wathc duty or something like that preventing his call, but no such luck.  He was able to call me during the hurricane and make sure we were alright, but was limited to one minute.  I wasn't able to find out anything about why he didn't get his call home, or even ask him any questions.  We were cut off after one minute.  I was ecstatic to hear his voice, but heart broken that I haven't gotten to talk to him for more than one minute the entire time he's been in BC.  Do any of you know what could have happened that would prevent his being able to call like the others?

@ Shanna, About letters to recruits that aren't getting any...I joined a Facebook group called Calls for Recruits / Letters from Home project.  He keeps a list of SR addresses that aren't receiving mail.  I picked one SR a few weeks ago and she even wrote me back.  In fact today is her PIR!! So excited and happy for her. Here's the fb group link:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/453921554637473/

I love this post Arizona Dad. We too are from AZ, but my son is in Ship 13 Div 313, so I don't think it is my son.
