StephensMom: Be sure to check out Southwest Airlines into Milwaukee (45 min to GL) or Chicago-Midway (about an hour or more to GL). Do they fly from your area? They have no change fee and first 2 checked bags are free. Less traffic in Milwaukee (Chicago traffic can be awful), car rental is cheaper there too, we have heard.
Might want to check it out!
Good Morning Moms! I know eevry week our SRs are doing something different. I am worried that something could happen to change the PIR date. I am waiting to book flight and hotel and car until half-way. Hope I don't get messed up on reservations.I am so excited about the PIR and can think of nothing else. Our other son is in the army and you never forget the graduation and how tall your child stands. I was afraid he had changed, he had and it was for the good.
I gave her my cell number. I am hoping she will call me soon ;-)
That is awesome Jolene :-)
I was walking out of the hotel early this morning while my family was sleeping and a woman was struggling with two suitcases. I helped out to her car and saw an Army mom decal on her window. I asked about her soldier and she started to cry. She came in yesterday to welcome him home from Afghanistan. He has only been in a year and has already been there for just shy of 7 months and just got back yesterday. She wanted to spend more time with him but has to go back to work so she had to leave today. My heart was breaking for her. We talked for almost an hour and I told her all about this website even though there are very few Army Moms here that doesn't really matter. We all know what it is like to have a loved one in the military and be missing them. The one thing she said that all of us here can relate to is her family just doesn't understand what she is feeling and why it is so hard for her. They think she should be stronger. He is her only child and she is a single mom. She seemed so much better after talking to me/someone who understands what she is going through and is willing to listen to her. I'm not sure how long her son will be back at FT Bragg. He got married right before basic training and his wife, whom he has barely even lived with is 7 months pregnant. This moms name is Carrie, so please keep her and her soldier, his wife and baby in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks so much
My Sailor is with me today and I just asked her about the iron and ironing board. She said they wear the digital blues almost all the time. Those don't need ironed if you fold them when they come out of the dryer. She said the only time they wear the dress uniform is for insepections and she had hers dry cleaned. She said she didn't buy an iron or ironing board but remembers using one a few times. She isn't sure if it was her roommates or if it was provided. An iron and ironing board is not something they would be able to carry with them since they have to be able to carry all of their own stuff when leaving for their new base. She was at NAS Pensacola so it may be different at different bases but I would expect it to be very similar.
They can usually write letters on Sundays beginning the 3rd Sunday after they arrive but it can vary by RDC and division.
When are they allowed to write letters? Just curious...
Never have seen a PIR date change for a whole group....and I have been on this site since 2009! However, an individual SR can be "asmoed" (setback) at any point during bootcamp, which would change his/her PIR date.
