N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Marcelle, If your sons division is 387 his PIR date is 10/11. Since his division and brother divisions are the last two divisions in this TG, it is very possible their training days may just have started. The form letter is generally not mailed until they are out of processing and p hold days, which may just have happened.

The form letter can take up to three weeks to receive, and your recruit has been gone 10 days (my sons form letter took 16 days). I am guessing your form letter will arrive next week. Hang in there!

Cards should be just fine as long as they are not recordable, musical or have glitter on them that can fall off :)

Comment by WeeBee's Mom on August 23, 2013 at 9:06pm

Nonchalantly stopped in at the recruiter's office yesterday because I had lunch at the restaurant next door. WeeBee's actual recruiter wasn't in so I just asked the guy that was there if he would check PIR date for travel arrangements. He didn't offer ship and division and me trying to look like I was patient didn't ask. Silly Mom! I should have asked :D Left on 8/13, PIR date confirmed 10/11 barring any complications but no letter yet. Maybe tomorrow. This is worse than waiting on the results of my licensing exams lol.

Can anyone tell me if Hallmark cards are ok. I found a bunch of encouragement cards that I would like to send my SR. I even purchased separate white envelopes to mail the cards in since I was advised to not use envelopes with colors. Now i wonder if the fact that they are cards rather than letters could be an issue. I messed up and put a "smiley" sticker on the envelope of his first letter. Hope he doesn't get harassed too badly for my extra touches on his envelope. :)
