N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Contact the recruiter in the meantime if you want to Debbie.  He/she should have ship/division info for you (they get it from the computer).  Some of it COULD change though, so check it with the form letter info when you receive it.

@Diannep  - No I have not. He just left on Wed. I am just inpatient when it comes to him and not knowing what is going on and when things are happening. I love this website. I know that I am not alone in this process. It is good to hear everyone comments. I will wait and post once I find out. Thanks for all the support everyone.

Good Morning!

Deb Navymom:  Have you received the form letter yet?  If not, did you contact your recruiter to get info?  Most on here have either received the form letter or got info from the recruiter.  In the meantime, stay on here until you get your date confirmed!

...and on the thick envelopes, they will just have to open them in front of the RDCs.  Yes, they would then look at the piks, but in most cases, not an issue.  However, like I said below, most SRs would like for their mail to remain private to them (although they will share pictures with their shipmates....especially ones of their pets!!!).

The best way to send lots of piks is to scan a bunch on the back of your letter to them, or on a separate sheet of paper.  That way, they store easier and they have many in one letter!

proudmama:  I agree with CatMom.  Some RDCs don't mind the colored envelopes, but some use them to 'haze' the SR a little.  Remember, the SRs want to "fly under the radar" when it comes to RDCs...they don't want extra attention brought on themselves.  Unless they tell you NOT to send cards, then they are fine.

Friends,

Also want to let you know that you can put your SR's cell phone on Military Suspension for the 2 months that he/she wiil be in Boot Camp.  Just contact your cell phone carrier after your SR has made his/her "I'm Here" call and the phone is on its way back to you in The Box or any time after you get it back.  You can do this for free and it will save on the monthly charges on that phone.  You can re-activate it for the day before PIR.  I was able to easily re-activate my daughter's cell phone online at Verizon Wireless.

Thanks Catmom509- I became concerned because I also put a 2-3 photos in each card... and wondered after the earlier post about being careful about not having the letter be too thick... if I was making my son's mail to thick by sending a card and then enclosing photos. I did check the weight and it did not require additional postage.. so- it sounds ok? And BTW- Thanks for the encouraging scriptures- it helps me through my day!
