Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

What items can we bring or not bring to PIR?

Small purses, small diaper bags and cameras/video recorders are allowed. Strollers, car seats and backpacks are allowed, but discouraged due to space limitations. Due to security regulations, luggage is not permitted inside the drill hall. You can leave these items in your car. The taking of photographs/video is allowed at the Visitor Center and encouraged during the entire ceremony; however NO photography/video is permitted outside of these buildings. Contraband also will be confiscated and you may not be permitted entry. These items include but are not limited to: alcohol, illegal drugs, knives or weapons of any kind.

I am not sure if I asked you this already or not. I am sorry, if I did. But some moms on FB are saying their SR's are saying that they are getting another group added to their PIR date so they can only bring 3 guests. Do you know if this happens. I have my 2 children coming from college to see their brother. I can't pick just one of them. When will we know if this is happening.

Comment by Feliciackm on September 19, 2013 at 3:55pm: Well, thanks to everyones help, I finally booked a hotel. We are at Spring Hill Suites Marriott!! Super excited. Anyone else there? I'm thinking of making a door banner for the hotel door. I'm bummed about not being able to make it to a meet and greet though, we won't arrive till 12am or later. We're going to be so tired but, we WILL be there. My only concern is getting to and from PIR. To avoid the inspections/crazy traffic (or whatever) I see it's better to shuttle. However, my daughter is still in an infant carseat... what on earth would I do with the carseat once we got to PIR?
